Parasitism in the Tropics http://axisoflogic.com/artman/publish/Article_58969.shtml
As time passes in the wake of Haiti's historic earthquake, news of the devastation fades from the pages and television screens of the corporate media and from the minds of their viewers. Exceptions include occasional reports that depict U.S. aid organisations bringing solutions to the capitalist-induced, deeply rooted problems in Haiti that were compounded by the earthquake. A recent CNN feature for example, showed some U.S. art-therapy practitioners with a dozen or so smiling children finding healing by drawing pictures of their ineffable suffering.
In the weeks after the earthquake we saw a massive outpouring of emotion around the world with daily media coverage, aid agency reports and photo ops of politicians. But it is now that the real work begins with the rainy season bringing new and deadly problems. The imperialists want the public to forget Haiti's suffering now, allowing the U.S. to continue their decades-long plunder of the island nation with impunity. Axis of Logic's Haitian columnist, Dady Chery, reminds us of the deepening disaster and the mechanics of foreign exploitation.
