The below invitation, that you didn't get, is to the latest in a series of coup-whitewashing efforts led by DC-based think tank The Inter-American Dialogue's Peter Hakim and Michael Shifter since last summer. Speakers have been heavily pro-coup (with the one exception of a well-spoken panel of anti-coup Liberals), and have included, among others, illegally-appointed members of Honduras' Supreme Electoral Tribunal (invited by Peter Hakim as a personal favor to his old friend golpista former ambassador Roberto Flores Bermúdez, he told a group of us afterward), Hugo Llorens, and Hakim and Shifter themselves.

Topics have followed the State Department line: free & fair elections, turning a new page with Lobo, reconciliation, and now, the Truth Commission (the one rejected by the entire Honduran Human Rights Platform, made up of golpistas and mining company lawyers, which accepts impunity as a pre-condition and which won't release its results for 10 years). Yet another example about how corporate-funded Washington pseudo-academics are creating the narrative needed by U.S. politicians and press to continue violently squelching democracy.
