EFE: A councilor from the Colombian city of Puerto Santander was among three unidentified suspects arrested in Venezuela during a raid that led to the seizure of nearly one ton of marijuana.The seizure was made "at a mobile checkpoint in the Pueblo Hondo sector of the city of Jauregui," in the border state of Tachira, National Guard Region 1 commander Gen. Franklin Marquez told the official ABN news agency.
Police seized 200 kilos of cocaine last Friday in another case involving drug trafficking in the border region.Jorge Gustavo Rondon Rojas, a Colombian who was carrying a Venezuelan national identity card, was arrested for smuggling the cocaine, ABN reported.
Venezuelan authorities seized 60,164 kilos of different drugs in 2009, while drug seizures this year, as of May 10, total 23,000 kilos, with 2,924 people arrested on drug charges.Colombia is the world's largest grower of coca and producer of cocaine, according to UN figures.Venezuela and Colombia share a 2,219-kilometer (1,378-mile) border
