Charles Taylor, the Liberian warlord, failed to appear at his war crimes tribunal after his British lawyer stormed out of the United Nations court, labelling it a "farce". The trial of the former Liberian president on 11 counts of war crimes, including charges of murder, rape and sexual slavery, has lasted more than two years and is finally reaching its conclusion.UN prosecutors have accused Mr Taylor, 63, of trading in "blood diamonds" to fund a 10-year campaign of terror conducted largely against civilians and carried out by rebels in Liberia's neighbouring Sierra Leone.
