Iran's War on Narcotics:Police Tighten Clampdown on Drug-Trafficking in Northern Province http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=8912280491

A senior Iranian provincial police commander said that the volume of drug seizures in the country's Northern province of Semnan has witnessed a remarkable growth during the last Iranian year. Speaking to reporters, Commander of Semnan's Law Enforcement Police General Qassem Nasri announced that police forces have seized 3,300 kg of different types of narcotics during the last Iranian year. 

The seizures have witnessed a 62% increase compared with the same period last year. Nasri added that his forces have also disbanded 98 rings involved in drug-trafficking activities during the said period. Earlier this month, Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar announced that Iran's law enforcement police forces have seized over 400 tons of different types of narcotics during the current Iranian year. Addressing a drug-burning ceremony in Tehran where some 42 tons of narcotics were set on fire, Mohammad Najjar stressed that the country's police have initiated new methods in the fight against drug-trafficking.
