Obama creates indefinite detention system for Guantanamo prisoners http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/03/07/AR2011030704871.html
Barack Obama signed an executive order Monday that will create a formal system of indefinite detention for Guantanamo detainees said to pose a threat to national security. Administration officials said Obama is still committed to closing the prison, even though plans to create a detention center in the US and prosecute detainees in federal court have all but collapsed in the face of congressional opposition. Anthony Romero, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union, said: "It is virtually impossible to imagine how one closes Guantanamo in light of this executive order,” adding: "In a little over two years, the Obama administration has done a complete about-face." The executive order applies to at least 48 of the remaining 172 detainees. Intelligence assessments concluded they remained a serious threat and could not be safely repatriated or resettled in a third country.
[Safely repatriated, thats almost funny, when you imprision, detain ,torture a human being for years, without any evidence of crimes committed do you expect him to come out looking for anything but revenge?
