Study Reveals Key Factors in Removing Heavy Metals from Water http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=8912140880Iranian researchers at the Energy and Materials Research Institute managed to remove cadmium from aqueous solutions by means of hydroxyapatite nanocrystals. "This project was conducted with the goal of investigating the feasibility of using hydroxyapatite nanocrystals as an adsorbent for removal of heavy metals from aqueous solutions", Dr. Iman Mobasherpour, faculty member at ceramic department of Energy and Materials Research Institute, said.
"We managed to investigate the adsorption behavior by changing factors like variation of hydroxyapatite nanocrystals size, temperature and initial concentration of metallic ion, adsorbent mass, mixing speed and solution pH. Then, we determined the activation energy of adsorption system and lastly studied the feasibility of using hydroxyapatite nanocrystals as a suitable industrial adsorbent," he added.
