Members of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) and social organizations are promoting a law against silence and oblivion that would allow the State to investigate past cases of torture and murder.According to Sunday news reports, the crimes to be investigated occurred as part of the political repression during the 1960s, 70s and 80s, carried out by the ruling Democratic Action and Copei parties against mass protests and leftist movements.A meeting on promoting this law was held Saturday in the capital and chaired by PSUV leader Marelis Perez, with the Capitan de Navio Manuel Ponte Rodriguez Anti-Imperialist Foundation and the Against Oblivion Bolivarian Association, the Ultimos Noticias newspaper reported.The law will help end the impunity enjoyed by the culprits of these crimes, which took the lives of at least 3,000 people, said Perez, who is also a parliamentary deputy.
