In light of the drums of war and the preparation to launch the military operations against the Syrian Arab Republic under the pretext of the use of chemical weapons, the Occupied Palestine and Syrian Golan Heights Advocacy Initiative (OPGAI) states its absolute rejection to any external aggression planned by the imperialist circles in the region. This trespass goes beyond all the international law and customs, bringing to mind the tragedy of the war of aggression on Iraq in 2003 under the pretext of weapons of mass destruction. That turned out to be pure lies in order to justify destroying and shattering Iraq into pieces, resulting in the killing, injuring and displacing of millions of Iraqis; destroying Iraq's infrastructure; and drowning it in chaos and infighting. It also reminds us of the NATO's intervention in Libya, which is still living and harvesting the results of this colonial intervention, apparent in the form of destruction, death, internal war and shattering.
This war that comes under the heading of humanitarian intervention has nothing to do with human rights. Furthermore, what the colonial circles and the USA seek is to express their attempts to dominate and control the region. That was announced by the U.S. President Barack Obama, when he emphasized that all he cares about is to maintain the security of Israel and the flow of oil. Thus, he ignored what would result from destruction and overall death affecting all the people of the Middle East. While affirming its rejection and condemnation of this aggressive policy, OPGAI also sees that any aggression against Syria would mean the ignition of the Middle East, and the dragging of its people into destructive wars leading to humanitarian, social, economic and environmental disasters. In light of this, we call on local and international social movements, civil society, organizations and networks to massively take a stand and act now in order to prevent this war in protection of humanity and world peace.
