Humberto Vargas Medina, a member of a new truth commission established to investigate past abuses in Venezuela, said Wednesday: “This is a very important step in our political history.”“For the first time,” he said, “we have a truth commission that is going to investigate the crimes committed in our country during four decades, from 1958 to 1998.”He said that events of those years have been erased from the memory of the Venezuelan people, and therefore the work of the commission is essential.“First, so that our people can remember, and second, to condemn those atrocities of State terrorism that were committed then, as a product of the ‘Pact of Punto Fijo’ period under the political parties Acción Democrática and Copei,” Vargas said in an interview on Venezolana de Televisión.The truth commission, which plans to commence its activities on February 27, will investigate politically-motivated crimes including forced disappearances, torture and other human rights violations committed from 1958 to 1998.Vargas recalled that during this time, a systematic state policy(BACKED BY U.S. GOVT) was in place to target leftist and revolutionary leaders.Forced disappearances, torture, and a large number of political prisoners were a consequence of state terrorism. They were not isolated events, but rather, part of a state policy that caused all of those atrocities,” he said.

Spanish Prime Minister Rajoy implicated in corruption scandal
Top Popular Party (PP) party officials, including Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy and government ministers, are embroiled in a major Spanish corruption scandal.Evidence from the PP’s internal accounts indicates that between 1990 and 2008, leading politicians were paid regular sums of money from secret slush funds provided by construction companies and other businesses. Last Saturday, Rajoy denied that he received any money, but on Monday, with Germany’s chancellor Angela Merkel at his side, he stated that “It is all untrue, except for some things”.So far, the PP has claimed that the allegations are inventions by El País, a newspaper close to the opposition Socialist Workers Party (PSOE). The PP accuses El País of being unpatriotic for launching “unproved allegations” while Spain is in the midst of the worst economic crisis since the end of Francoism. Former prime minister Aznar has said he will sue the newspaper for defamation.Even so, some PP officials, including former PP deputy José Trías Sagnier and PP Senate speaker Pío García Escudero, have admitted to receiving regular large cash payments along with their normal salaries.The latest revelations emerged after former PP treasurer Luis Bárcenas, in charge of the party’s accounts, admitted last week in the Spanish High Court that he had repatriated €10 million from a secret Swiss bank account. He had taken advantage of a tax amnesty passed last year by his colleague, Finance Minister Cristóbal Montoro, which allowed tax evaders to repatriate capital from abroad in return for just a 10 percent tax.At one point, Bárcenas held €22 million in Switzerland before transferring the funds to other accounts after being impeached in the Gürtel money-laundering case (see “Spain: Popular Party embroiled in corruption scandal“). It was the Gürtel case that saw the downfall of top investigative judge Baltasar Garzón. He was suspended from his job for 11 years, effectively ending his career, after the Supreme Court found him guilty of illegally tapping the phones of suspects and lawyers about to move money beyond the reach of his investigations.

But is there something sinister lurking behind the organization’s benevolent facade? SEBIN, the Venezuelan intelligence service, seems to believe so. According to a dossier attributed to SEBIN, the Caracas-based group is actually part of an Israeli cloak-and-dagger operation aimed at undermining the leftist government of President Hugo Chavez. The 34-page report said:We conclude that EAF operates as a strategic arm of the Israeli intelligence in the country, operating in the field of subversive socio-political influence through representatives of far-right Zionist groups and economic elites.The document, which includes surveillance photographs of the group’s offices and personal details of its board members, goes on to suggest that EAF poses a security threat and should be kept under surveillance through hidden cameras and listening devices. The report is part of a massive cache of material obtained by Analises24, an Argentinian media outlet opposed to Chavez, that includes intelligence reports, clandestinely recorded photos and videos and even personal information on Chavez’s family. No matter the official reports on his state of health have been becoming more optimistic with each passing day, the hostile propaganda juggernaut is getting into full swing at global scale saying the President is «incapable» to carry out his functions. It’s easy to guess which US agencies are behind the necrophilic activities: the State Department, the CIA, psycho-political operations services. Media, non-governmental organizations, various intelligence agents tasked to spread influence – all are involved in the «Kill Chavez» operation…Cochez compared the Bolivarian government to the past dictatorships of Stroessner, Batista, Trujillo and Somosa. According to the Panama’s Ambassador, the internal issues, including top leaders health problems, should be discussed freely in real democracies. He expressed doubts the Venezuelan people were given full and trustworthy information about the Chavez’s state of health. He called upon the colleagues to adhere to the principles mentioned above while considering the issue to avoid becoming accomplices in the violations of Venezuelan Constitution.The scandalous and ill-intentioned speech evoked immediate response for Roy Chaderton Matos, the Ambassador of Venezuela in the OAS. In immediate response to Cochez, Chaderton was scathing: "Mr. Ambassador of Panama, I won't allow your aggression towards my country and my government, nor your venomous and miserable comments about the health of President Chávez, whom surely, following orders of your government, you wish to die." From his criticism of the Panamanian government Chaderton moved to the personal qualities of Willy Cochez: "You are neither a politician, nor a diplomat, nor a gentleman, you are a lout." Chaderton doubted the Panama’s government had previously approved the Cochez’s speech. He wished «to talk to the owner of the circus, not a clown» (1). No doubt, the Venezuelan diplomat meant the US while referring to the owner of the circus. Over three years Cochez has been countering the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (in Spanish: Alianza Bolivariana para los Pueblos de Nuestra América, or ALBA) in the Organization of American States day in day out. It hardly met the foreign policy interests of Panama, but fully matched the North American ones (the United States of America and Canada). He managed to get away with these kinds of tricks before, but this time it was not Venezuela only offended. He also attacked José Miguel Insulza Salinas, a Chilean politician and statesman, who is currently the Secretary General of the Organization of American States, who, allegedly, facilitated destructive trends inside the international body.The Panama's Ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS), Guillermo Cochez, was dismissed the next day by the president of Panama Ricardo Martinelli. It came to light the diplomat had received the instructions to abstain from disputes with the Venezuelan Ambassador and ALBA representatives. The Panama’s Foreign Minister had told him to do so by phone and in the written form. It was a rare occasion he was told what to do in such a detailed way. Obviously the Panama’s Foreign Ministry received the information the US State Department wanted to use Cochez to launch the debates devoted to the «Venezuelan issue». Cochez ignored the instructions sent from above and actually confirmed the fact that he considered the US Department of State to be his main employer. Otherwise it’s hard to explain why the Panama’s diplomat would come out is support of radical Venezuelan opposition giving interviews to the newspapers El Unirersal, El Nacional and Golobovision TV news network without paying much attention to wording (he said Chavez was «fully paralyzed», «dying» «incapable»).Right after being fired Cochez got involved in the activities to spread around the fake clip allegedly showing Chavez on an operating table. It’s not easy to believe the posting of the fake clip was a mere improvisation.Italian freelance journalist Tommaso De Benedetti saw a YouTube clip shot in 2008 showing a man resembling Chavez on an operational table. The journalist made pictures and tried to sell them to some European newspapers. Spanish El Pais, that has been waging a war against «the Chavez regime», took the bait. The Newspaper’s editors say they checked the authenticity of pictures. They asked Moisés Naím a Venezuelan writer and columnist, living in the United States and Yoani Sánchez, a Cuban blogger, which has a reputation of intensively cooperating with the CIA, for their expertise. Now, could the people, who devoted their lives to the fight against «dictatorships» in Venezuela and Cuba be impartial? They confirmed the authenticity of the pictures and an El Pais edition saw light with the picture of Chavez on the cover. That’s exactly what was needed. The matter is the US special services normally use El Pais, El Mundo, ABC and other leading Spanish newspapers materials to target Latin America.The photo was revealed as a fake by Venezuelan TV journalist Walter Morales, the Dossier program’s anchorman. It sparked panic in El Pais. The edition was urgently withdrawn and reprinted no matter it meant additional expenditure.

Sabotaging CELAC : The US and Sweden

The governments of the United States and Sweden are conniving directly with an extreme-right wing network in Latin America in a move to sabotage the summit meeting in Santiago de Chile of Heads of State from the European Union (EU) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC). To do so they are working with the CIA and the most reactionary elements of the anti-Cuban mafia in Miami.

This week the Chilean Crónica Digital news outlet reported that the Swedish embassy in Santiago and the extreme-right wing Centre for Openness and Development in Latin America (CADAL), an Argentine think tank, with the help, needless to say, of the US embassy, prepared for January 24th, two days before the summit begins, an event called“Promoting International Democratic Solidarity” with the main objective of attacking the Cuban Revolution and Cuba's President Raul Castro.The fundamental objectives of this event seem to be to create a problem for Chilean President Sebastian Piñera while trying to skew the summit climate away from any serious discussion between a European Union beset by very serious crises of all kinds and a Latin America more and more united and independent.The active participation in this move of Sweden, a country increasingly regarded as a slavish follower of the United States, probably seeks to put pressure on those members of the European Union more readily open to taking the summit seriously. However, the latest condemnation in Venezuela of plans to assassinate Vice-President Nicolás Maduro and the President of Venezuela's National Assembly Diosdado Cabello indicate that even more sinister motives may lie behind the organization of the CADAL event.According to the report in Crónica Digital, the organizers of CADAL's meeting of continental reactionaries are:

• Lawrence Corwin, regarded by the Cuban authorities as a US CIA official who was stationed in Cuba between 1998 and 2001;
  
• the Swedish diplomat Anders Ingemar Cederberg, who dedicated himself full time during his period in Havana to interfering in Cuba's affairs to the point that the Cuban authorities made formal protests to the Swedish government;
  
• Mijail Bonito Lovio, Secretary for International Relations of a body called  Independent and Democratic Cuba (CID);
  
• CADAL's Program Coordinator, Micaela Hierro Dori;
  
• and, finally, 18 politicians of the extreme-right wing American Parliamentary Democratic Alliance (APDA).

CADAL is an extreme-right wing network, based in Buenos Aires, from where it works to carry out an intensive program of propaganda and political pressure against the countries of the Bolivarian Alliance of the Americas, led by Cuba and Venezuela.Formed on February 27th 2003 in Buenos Aires, CADAL has counted among its members very well known personalities and ideologues of the Latin American right wing with roots in the fascist dictatorships that submerged the Southern Cone in desolation during the 1970s. One notes the presence, for example, of Danilo Arbilla, former Press Secretary of the Uruguayan dictatorship (and also ex President of the Inter-American Press Society); Hugo Martini, former editor of the Carta Política magazine, the ideological organ of the Argentine dictatorship and also of General Pinochet's former Labour Minister José Piñera, whose brother Sebastián is today the Chilean President.

As you probably know well, Jews were the main financial supporters of Simon Bolivar; Jews offered refuge to Bolivar’s sisters; and Jews fought next to Bolivar to secure the freedom and independence of this land. During all this time, generations of Venezuelan Jews supported the construction of this great country.In his address, Ronald S. Lauder also called on Jewish communities to defend Israel against growing international attacks on its legitimacy. “As Jewish communities, we naturally defend Israel’s right to exist in peace and prosperity, even if we don’t always agree with everything the Israeli government of the day does. Germany Urges EU Countries to Step Up Support of Venezuelan Opposition
In the May 18 2012 edition of Venezuelan paper Correo Del Orinoco it wasreported that, at a EU meeting on Latin American affairs, the German government asked EU countries to step up their support of the MUD (Democratic Unity Roundtable) coalition (the Venezuelan opposition coalition now headed by Henrique Capriles Radonski).While German government representatives called for such support not to be hidden from the public, Portugal and France called for a more secretive approach. In addition, the report mentions the direct financial support that the Venezuelan opposition enjoys from not only USAID, but also from the anti-democratic National Endowment for Democracy.Venezuelan Opposition Made Secret Visit to Israel Even more revealing is the fact that, on the weekend prior to the 18 May 2012 publication, Venezuelan opposition lawyer and politician Antonio Ledezma secretly flew to Israel – a country which Venezuela has severed diplomatic ties with – on Venezuelan taxpayer money, to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman on a three-day visit.During Ledezma’s private, unannounced trip to Israel paid for with public Venezuelan money, he promised to re-establish ties with the usurping Zionist entity if the Jewish settler state would fund and back Henrique Capriles Radonski. UNASUR agency to settle investment conflicts may be launched in 2013
The Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) may already count with its own agency to solve conflicts in matters of investments by the first quarter of 2013, informed Ecuador's Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino.The proposal to create this agency, raised by Ecuador several years ago, was backed once again by almost all members of UNASUR, Patino said after the sixth Meeting of Heads of States and Presidents of the regional bloc."The issue has progressed a lot. Practically all countries agree with this. It has been proposed to finish its review to start operating next year," Patino said to the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN).There has not been confirmed a seat for the new agency, he added, though the most important issue is that it has been passed.The Ecuadorean foreign minister stated that South American countries do not need to continue turning to courts with a colonialist view and structure.Therefore, Patino said that "it is good for UNASUR to have its own agency to solve conflicts, not needing to go to ICSID (International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes) or others to hear how to develop settlement systems of our own.""We need to have our own systems in the region," Ricardo Patino said.

Over 290,000 Housing Mission units so far
So far, the Grand Housing Mission Venezuela has constructed 293,799 dwelling units since it was launched in 2011, informed Thursday the director of the Presidential Office for Special Plans and Projects, Francisco Sesto.This social project was launched in April 2011 with a view to end with the country's housing deficit.Its goal is to put up 350,000 houses between 2011 and 2012, for which authorities have announced the implementation of a phase to finish off the works.It is expected the construction of 2,650,000 houses during Hugo Chavez's next term in office (2013-2019), adding up to a total 3 million units, said Francisco Sesto.Sesto said the information from a building constructed on behalf of the presidential office, in downtown Caracas, where 96 families moved in.

This building was put up in a land previously used as parking lot. "There are decent houses now for our people in the heart of the capital" city, Sesto said.The Presidential Office is expected to complete 6,300 dwelling units in states Vargas and Caracas by December, Sesto added. This agency is just one of a large amount of organs working on the Housing Mission.Also on Thursday, 324 families received new homes in four buildings constructed by the same Office. A total 1,360 families moved in to new homes nationwide.

US overseeing mysterious construction project in Israel

The US Army Corps of Engineers plans to supervise construction of a five-story underground facility for an IDF complex oddly named “Site 911” at an IAF base near Tel Aviv. Expected to take more than two years to build at a cost of up to $100m, the facility is to have classrooms on Level 1, an auditorium on Level 3, a laboratory, shock-resistant doors, protection from nonionizing radiation and very tight security. Clearances will be required for all construction workers, guards will be at the fence, and barriers will separate it from the rest of the base. Only US construction firms are being allowed to bid on the contract, and proposals are due Dec 3, according to the latest Corps of Engineers notice.

Site 911 is the latest in a long history of military construction projects the US has undertaken for the IDF under the US Foreign Military Sales program. The 1998 Wye River Memorandum has led to about $500m in US construction of military facilities for Israel, most of them initially in an undeveloped part of the Negev Desert, supposedly to ensure there were bases to which IDF forces stationed in the West Bank could be redeployed. As recorded in the Corps’ European District magazine, Engineering in Europe, three bases were built to support 20,000 troops, and eventually the IAF moved into the same area, creating Nevatim air base. A new runway 2.5 miles long was built there by the Corps along with about 100 new buildings and 10 miles of roads. Over the years, the Corps has built underground hangers for Israeli fighter-bombers, facilities for handling nuclear weapons, though Israel does not admit having such weapons, command centers, training bases, intelligence facilities and simulators, according to Corps publications. Within the past two years the Corps, which has three offices in Israel, completed a $30m set of hangars at Nevatim, which the magazine describes as a “former small desert outpost that has grown to be one of the largest and most modern air bases in the country.” It has also supervised a $20m project to build maintenance shops, hangars and headquarters to support Israel’s large Eitan UAV.Site 911, which will be built at another base, appears to be one of the largest projects. The Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) today rejected the actions of the Zionist state of Israel against the Palestinian people and expressed solidarity with their(Palestinian) struggle for independence, said Politburo member of the organization, Carlos Aquino.In a meeting with the press, the party leader denounced and  urged world to stop the Israeli offensive on Gaza that has led up to this Monday 100 killed and hundreds injured.Aquino added that the PCV is in solidarity with the Palestinian cause and the full recognition to statehood, as an independent nation, the right to peace, to their ancestral land and rebuild the holy land family in the territories where they have lived for over two thousand 500 years.Respect is summoned for the revolutionary political and social movements to mobilize and strengthen solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Chavez calls on Obama to stop US hegemonic policies

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has called on his US counterpart Barack Obama to put an end to Washington’s policy of “invading” and “destabilizing” other countries.

Speaking at a Thursday meeting with his cabinet ministers at the Presidential Palace in Caracas, Chavez pointed out that Obama should “forget about invading other nations, destabilizing countries, etc.”He described the US as socially and economically “fractured” and called on Obama to focus on “governing his own country” instead.
