Lula Dismisses General Opposed to His Truth Commission http://www.brazzilmag.com/component/content/article/82-february-2010/11862-lula-dismisses-general-opposed-to-his-truth-commission.html

Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, signed last night the dismissal of General Maynard Marques de Santa Rosa from his post as chief of Army's General Staff Department after the general publicly and harshly criticized the creation of the Truth Commission. The commission was devised by the government to investigate crimes against human rights committed during the military dictatorship (1964-1985).

The general had signed a statement, which was published in the Internet, where he stated that the Lula administration commission would be led by "fanatics" and would be more like a "slandering committee."Brazilian Army commander, General Enzo Martins Peri was the one who suggested that Santa Rosa be dismissed after confirming that he was responsible for the document.

Defense minister Nelson Jobim had sought Peri's counsel on how to proceed with the case. The dismissal suggestion was taken to the president who ended up signing the dismissal letter, which will be published this Thursday in the Diário Oficial (Official Gazette).Jobim confirmed the conversation he had with General Peri: "I asked him to take immediate action, in light of news that had circulated. First, the confirmation of the fact, and second, what action to take. Two hours later he called me saying he had confirmed the news and suggested the removal of general."

comment-the truth commission taking place has been bumpy since initially the report was to be named ''political repression.''Some military commanders werent happy and applied pressure to signal this would be a witchunt by leftists forcing the removal of the reports title into ''Truth Commission''Jobim himself signed onto the new name to appease the old commanders in armed forces.

Now we have one of these commanders being dismissed for putting out a statement where he claims this so called ''Truth Commission''  would be led by ''fanatics ''and a ''slanderous committe''...This Commission is of extreme importance, for the  thousands of victims families, and also in order to make sure that those responsible can be brougth to justice. The coup was supported by US  GOV...see...

Extensive preparations by CIA and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) had included training of Brazilian right-wing officers at the School of the Americas, and promises of military equipment and funding post-coup. Additionally, the CIA had funneled money into several hundred anti-Goulart political candidates beginning as early as 1962.http://en.allexperts.com/e/j/jo/joão_goulart.htm

NATO’s Role In The Military Encirclement Of Iran  http://rickrozoff.wordpress.com/2010/02/10/natos-role-in-the-military-encirclement-of-iran/

In late January a former Azeri presidential adviser, Vafa Guluzade, spoke at a seminar called NATO-Azerbaijan Cooperation: A Civilian View and said, “The territory and people of Azerbaijan are ideal for military cooperation with NATO. The country has a favourable geostrategic location….Azerbaijan has military aerodromes suitable for NATO bases.” [26] To Iran’s east, the U.S. and NATO will soon have over 150,000 troops, and according to a recent study 400 bases, in Afghanistan and both Western belligerents are coordinating military actions with Pakistan, the Alliance through the Trilateral Afghanistan-Pakistan-NATO Military Commission.Commander of US Land Forces in Europe Carter Ham participated in the training.”

“The NATO Response Force (NRF) is a highly ready and technologically advancedforce made up of land, air, sea and special forces components that the Alliance can deploy quickly wherever needed.“It is capable of performing missions worldwide across the whole spectrum of operations….” [25] In late January a former Azeri presidential adviser, Vafa Guluzade, spoke at a seminar called NATO-Azerbaijan Cooperation: A Civilian View and said, “The territory and people of Azerbaijan are ideal for military cooperation with NATO. The bolivarian revolution and peace http://alainet.org/active/34568

In his article, the President of the Bolivarian Republic was very clear and brave in explaining his position.“…I said it this Friday at the rally for peace and against the US military bases in Colombian territory: It is my duty to appeal to all of you, men and women, to defend Bolivar’s Homeland, our children’s Homeland… Our Homeland is free today and we shall defend it with our lives.Never again will Venezuela be anybody’s colony; never again will it kneel down before any invader or empire…

the extremely serious and transcendental problem in Colombia cannot be overlooked by the Latin American governments…”Later on, he added some important concepts: “…the entire ‘gringo’ war arsenal included in the agreement responds to the concept of extraterritorial operations…it turns the Colombian territory into an enormous Yankee military enclave…the greatest threat to peace and security in the South American region and in Our America.”

“The agreement…prevents Colombia from offering anyone security and respect; not even Colombian men and women. A country that has lost its sovereignty and become an instrument of the ‘new colonial power’ envisioned by our Liberator cannot offer such guarantees.”Chavez is a true revolutionary, a profound and sincere thinker, a courageous and restless worker. He did not win power through a coup d’état. He rebelled against the repression and genocide unleashed by the neoliberal governments that surrendered the country’s huge natural resources to the United States. He endured incarceration; he matured and developed his ideas. He did not win power with weapons despite his military background.

It is his merit to have taken the difficult path of a profound social Revolution starting out from the so-called representative democracy and an absolute freedom of expression, at a time when the most powerful media resources of the country were –they still are—in the hands of the oligarchy and at the service of the empire’s interests. In just 11 years, Venezuela has achieved the greatest educational and social progress attained by any country in the world, despite the coup d’état and the destabilization plans and smearing campaigns implemented by the United States.
