Iranian surgeons implanted an artificial trachea in human body by injecting matrix cell in the throat of a 29-year-old woman in a Tehran hospital, the first such operation in the world."The unique surgery was conducted for the first time in the world on a 29-year-old woman who had missed her trachea in a car accident," Head of Masih Daneshvari hospital Ali Akbar Velayati told reporters on Monday.

Velayati reiterated that the surgery was a single-phase operation and the patient does not need to undergo a second surgery, adding that the same surgery was done on a lamb two years ago and the animal is still alive.

He also said that the general health conditions of the woman are satisfactory and that she is in stable and very good condition. The woman had traveled to foreign countries 10 years ago to mend the problem and had undergone two surgeries but unfortunately neither operation had worked for her, he said. "Fortunately the patient who spoke discontinuously before the surgery, can now speak easily," Velayati added.
