Iran has hunted down an infamous drug lord in charge of massive drug-trafficking and dealing activities throughout the country, a senior provincial police chief announced on Saturday.Commander of the Law Enforcement Police of Iran's Southeastern Province of Kerman's Hossein Chenarian announced that Kerman police forces could trace the individual known as "Ebrabim N" in Tehran after four months of covert intelligence and technical operations and arrested him at Tehran's Mehrabad airport in a joint operation with the country's security police. 

Chenarian added the individual was smuggling huge drug cargos into the country from Pakistan, where his brother "Parviz" is among major drug-traffickers.The commander mentioned that charges raised against the detainee include armed drug-trafficking and armed clashes with Iranian police forces, trade of 2,109 kg of opium, 6.9 kg of morphine and possession of heavy artilleries. 

Iran leads international efforts in fighting drug networks and narcotic traffickers. According to the statistical figures released by the UN, Iran ranks first among the world countries in preventing entry of drugs and decreasing demand for narcotics. The United Nations credits Iran with the seizure of 80 percent of the opium netted around the world. Iran lies on a major drug route between Afghanistan and Europe, as well as the Persian Gulf states. Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the Iranian police have lost more than 3700 of their personnel in the country's combat against narcotics.
