ISRAELI POLICE ALLOW JEWISH EXTREMISTS TO STORM AL-AQSA MOSQUE http://www.namnewsnetwork.org/v2/read.php?id=159645

Israeli police have allowed extremist Jewish groups under its protection into the al-Aqsa Mosque compound, one of Islam’s holiest sites, in Jerusalem’s Old City, as part of celebrations Wednesday marking the annexation of East Jerusalem in 1967. Extremist Jewish groups had announced they would organize an “invasion” of al-Aqsa Mosque complex and a provocative ceremonial march where hundreds of Israeli settlers would raise Israeli flags on this occasion.

The march started from the Shiekh Jarrah neighbourhood and snaked across the Old City under police and army protection. Settlers planned to hold loud celebrations at the Old City’s gates and around the complex.Israeli police put up iron barricades and spread patrols in many main streets leading to the Old City and the Western Wall, especially near Palestinian houses which were seized by Israeli settlers in Arab neighbourhoods.

Sporadic clashes broke out between Israeli settlers and soldiers and Muslim worshippers in al-Aqsa Mosque who expressed fears of a large-scale invasion of the mosque, backed by the Israeli police and army.Usually, such marches feature extremist Jews’ assaults against Arab residents and their properties in Jerusalem
