UNASUR CONFLICT CENTER MEETING IN ECUADOR OPENS http://www.namnewsnetwork.org/v2/read.php?id=159539

The first meeting of the conflict committee of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) is now in session here with the participation of Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño.The group is expected to approve the creation of a South American Center for Conflict Resolution. The meeting ending later today includes the personal representatives of the presidents of the 12 member nations of UNASUR, except for Surinam, sources said.

Patiño said the proposed center would make "it is possible to establish our own mechanism to resolve disputes." He said that the proposal for the center was submitted by Ecuador in Guyana on Nov 26 last year and approved by UNASUR heads of state.Patiño said that the idea is to create a legal institution as part of the regional bloc that is not only related to economic, social and political integration but also to solving disputes among countries and between states and legal entities.
