VENEZUELA-Maduro: Empire uses Syria's domestic problems to destroy this country http://www.avn.info.ve/node/81417

From Damascus, Syria capital city, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro called on the people of this Arab nation not to allow events devised by western powers as the bombing over Libyan citizens or the war on Iraq.“It is in hands of the Syrian people, with their capacity and patriotism, to prevent that from happening. It is also in hands of the public opinion not to allow a crime against the Syrian people,” Maduro said after members of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) met with Syrian government officials to discuss possible solutions to the armed conflict in the country.

Doubtlessly, Maduro said, the empire and western countries which have headed aggressions against Arab nations seek to use Syria"s domestic problems to hatch a conspiracy and destroy this Nation, reported a press release from the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry.

So far, armed confrontations between the Army and opponent groups have resulted in about two thousand people dead, among civilians and security officers. In an unprecedented initiative, the ALBA Political Council moved to Damascus to discuss alternatives to find peaceful solutions, respectful of the Syrian sovereignty.During his speech at a press conference to give a report on the discussions held so far, Maduro ratified the participation of the Venezuelan Government to accompany the Syrian people on the path they shall walk to overcome the conflict.

About the matter, Foreign Minister Maduro stated that the ALBA “will not sit there doing nothing” and that it is ready to discuss alternatives to find peaceful solutions, respectful of the Syrian sovereignty.Besides, he called to fight biased campaigns run by media outlets, which have worked to picture the conflict as a civil war.“We have to fight the media and psychological war (…) manipulation and lies spread through media outlets, which seek to impose a situation of civil war and continued violence in Syria,” reported a press release from the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez joined the stance. He expressed a deep concern for the way in which media outlets belonging to financial empires have violated -concerning the situation in Syria- the right to truthful information in order to manipulate the international opinion.Bolivian Communication Minister Ivan Canelas explained that the visit of members of the ALBA Political Council to Syria aims at ratifying “the respect, solidarity and support to the Syrian government and people ahead of their permanent struggle for their people"s self-determination and defense of their sovereignty.”

“We have confirmed that everything broadcast to the world about Syria is completely false and the world will get acquainted with it sooner or later,” Canelas said according to the press release.Meanwhile, Sub-Secretary for North America and Europe of Ecuador"s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pablo Villagomez stated that ALBA rejects all ways of media and political manipulation.“We are not talking just about Syria, but also about (the manipulation in) nations which might be dominated by imperialism through any of its expressions,” Villagomez said.
