Ecuador Demands Democratization of UN System
http://www.plenglish.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=452743&Itemid=1   The Ecuadorian government carries out contacts with different countries to foster a proposal to democratize the UN system, and appeal to a regional integration to change that power relationThis was expressed by President Rafael Correa, saying in front of foreign correspondents accredited in Quito that the UN Security Council is an absolutely anti-democratic power. In that body, few countries that were blatantly appointed the gendarmes and referees of the world have veto power."We are raising proposals on that matter, but we know we will not go alone anywhere. This concerns to join efforts among many countries that try to change that so anti-democratic system," Correa said. The president also criticized the Inter-American System of the Organization of American States (OAS), highlighting the contradiction that its headquarter is in Washington, when the United States does not recognize the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.Correa hopes that the coming Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (ECLAC), to be created in Venezuela on December 2-3, replaces the OAS.Correa emphasized Ecuador´s hope to develop the ECLAC as a forum for the resolution of regional conflicts, to replace the OAS, for a clear bias in favor of hegemonic countries, Correa noted."We are working for integration, because we are awareness that only as a bloc, we will have more significance in the world, to prevent subject us not only hegemonic countries but also hegemonic capitals," the president said.
