CELAC breaks with power imposed by hegemonic nations  http://www.avn.info.ve/contenido/celac-breaks-power-imposed-hegemonic-nations  - The General Prosecutor of Venezuela, Luisa Ortega Diaz, wrote this Sunday an opinion article published in the Public Ministry, titled "For Latin America and the Caribbean", that the creation of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean State breaks with the international order established by hegemonic nations to impose their power over others, "the region is now witness of the beginning of the end of such hegemony that is being born under the name of Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC)."Therefore, Ortega highlighted that "the birth of the CELAC breaks with the order established by hegemonic nations to impose their power over others. This is the eradication of old, orthodox and inefficient paradigms that harmed so much the communities in Latin American and the Caribbean and left behind a trail of poverty and misery. Today, we are witnessing this awakening with a high content of emancipation, integration and unity."Furthermore, she writes in her article that currently "the entire world has become scenery of changes; peoples determined to reject warmonger and hunger policies from their governments; people demanding peace and solutions to social, environmental and health problems, among other." Therefore, "the birth of the CELAC is a new step ahead for the solution of such difficulties and we are sure that it will serve as inspiration for other countries."In this regard, Ortega says: "Venezuela and other 32 countries have played a leading role in a historic and firm deed toward the realization of the dream of a united, solidarity and really big community. We are celebrating it, because we are aware that from now on Latin America and the Caribbean will be only for Latin Americans and Caribbeans."
CELAC condemns US blockade against Cuban people http://www.avn.info.ve/contenido/celac-condemns-us-blockade-against-cuban-people
The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), through a special statement released Saturday, expressed the need of putting an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against the Cuban people. The official document reads that the 33 member States of the regional bloc "express their strongest rejection to the coercive and unilateral economic measures implemented due to political reasons against sovereign countries, which affect the welfare of its people and are conceived to prevent them from exerting their right to decide, for their own will, their own political, economic and social systems."Also, they reiterated their strongest condemn to the enforcement of laws and measures "contrary to the international law," such as the Helms-Burton Act, enacted during the administration of the democrat Bill Clinton in 1996, including its extraterritorial effect. Thus, they urged the US government to stop its implementation. The CELAC member States demand Washington to fulfill the continual resolutions passed by the United Nations General Assembly, as well as to answer the repeated calls made by countries of Latin America and the Caribbean to end this blockade, which "causes substantial and unjustifiable damages to the welfare of the Cuban people and it harms the peace and coexistence among the American nations," the statement reads.
