Galant told attendees of a speech at Tel Aviv University:
Our efforts to dismantle the terror infrastructures in Judea and Samaria have caused terror levels to plummet, while in Gaza terrorists are being allowed to thrive and build. A lack of action, negligence by military officials, has resulted in a situation in the West Bank where we took care to tend the lawn, but in Gaza, since we didn’t, thorns grew into tree trunks. In the end we’ll have to go in with bulldozers. Gaza is something belonging to the Islamic bloc. That’s a reality no one knows how to solve.
Galant joins former IDF chiefs of staff Shaul Mofaz, Moshe Yaalon, Dan Halutz, and Gabi Ashkenazi in calling for major operations to root out Gaza’s terror infrastructure. Minister of Internal Security Yitzhak Aharonovitch has also publicly called for a Gaza incursion. Israel’s strategic paradigm of airstrikes-for-rockets has largely been seen as maintaining the poor security situation of its Gaza belt communities, which have had over 12,000 rockets fired at them from Gaza since 2001. Analysts say Israel could potentially use the chaos a future Assad ouster would create for Hamas’ foreign leadership and support networks as a window for moving against the terror infrastructures in its Gaza stronghold.

This author has always considered Syria the key to a stable and pacific
Lebanon and a disarmed “political” Hizballah. Syria—not Iran—has been
the most important support for Hizballah’s terrorist and guerrilla activity
against Israel from the north. Without Syria’s overall strategic umbrella,
specific military and political coordination, and pressure on Beirut to give the
organization free rein in southern Lebanon, Hizballah could not have achieved
its current status. Syrian aid in heavy weaponry, in addition to Iranian aid,
has transformed Hizballah into a strategic partner and an operational arm of
the Syrian army. Syria is also heavily involved in the support to all the radical
Palestinian organizations and factions and actively participates in the derailing
of the peace process between Israel, the Palestinians, and the Arabs

The regime requires conflict and radicalism astools for maintaining internal control. Damascus correctly assumes thatany strengthening of U.S. influence in the region will run counter toSyrian interests, so it is no accident that the regime has become the mostsystematically anti-American in the Arab world.291
