Bolivian President Evo Morales has blamed the United States for a possible demise of the Organisation of American States.Speaking to journalists accredited to the 42nd General Assembly of OAS today, Morales referred to the reasons why the continental organisation needed urgent reform in order to serve the interests of the peoples and not those of the United States."If OAS disappears it will be just the US government´s fault," he said.Morales said that "OAS emerged at another time, for other purposes, mainly to perpetuate the US control over Latin American countries, at Cold War time, as part of the distribution of the world by the powers of the past." "We are going through deep changes in Latin America now; the time when an OAS-backed coup was staged after a country got free from the United States is gone," warned Morales."We need an organisation that defends the rights of Latin American and Caribbean countries and also the rights of those living in the United States. This is not the time to think of America for the Americans, but rather for our peoples," he said.He said "deep changes are needed within OAS. If there are not profound changes, OAS will die at the service of the empire," a thesis he has defended in the past few days, with particular emphasis last Sunday during the inauguration of the 42nd General Assembly.
