The head of Romanian diplomacy made a point of the importance Romania attaches to stability in the Western Balkasn and the Black Sea areas, and enlarged on this country’s specific contributions, particularly support for the aspirations of the countries in the region for European and Euro-Atlantic integration. In the context, he proposed that Romania host in Bucharest a UN regional centre for the Western Balkans and the Black Sea, and expressed hope that decisive progress in this respect would be made in the near future.At the request of the interlocutor, Minister Corlăţean described the stage of the 5+2 talks on the settlement of the Transnistria conflict. He expressed concern over the humanitarian situation in Syria – which also affects Romanian citizens who settled there – and mentioned the financial contributions Romania has recently announced. Titus Corlăţean furthermore referred to the support Romania offered to states in the region for developing the legal framework in the electoral field, showing availability to continue this assistance in future, too.
