BERLIN RALLY CONDEMNS MKO-LED ASSAULT ON IRANIAN EMBASSY
A rally in Berlin on Saturday strongly condemned the recent MKO-led attack on the Iranian embassy.Gathering in front of Iran's diplomatic mission holding Iranian flags and pictures of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the group lashed out at Wednesday's attack on the embassy compound.Chanting 'Long live the Islamic Republic of Iran', 'We stand by Iran's Supreme Leader' and 'We oppose terrorism', the crowd voiced solidarity with the Islamic Republic for what it viewed Tehran's support for the oppressed nations in the world.Iran's embassy became the target of a well-coordinated and organized attack by MKO elements and pro-Zionist regime thugs on Wednesday afternoon.According to Iranian Ambassador to Berlin Ali Reza Sheikh-Attar, the police did not respond in time to their emergency call.He stressed also that Berlin authorities had ignored warnings by the Iranian embassy that such an assault was imminent.Meanwhile, Berlin police has acknowledged it failed to respond adequately to the warnings.Deeply embarrassed by the storming of the Iranian diplomatic mission, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle wrote to Berlin Mayor Klaus Wowereit demanding better protection for embassies.During past two years, there have been 13 cases of embassy buildings being attacked or occupied in the capital, a figure the government sees as unacceptable. There is urgent need for action on protection measures for the diplomatic facilities in Berlin,' wrote Westerwelle.'The protection of foreign embassies is Germany's obligation under international law,' German Foreign Ministry spokesman, Andreas Peschke, was quoted saying.Westerwelle has yet to receive a reply on his letter to Berlin's mayor.
