IRAN DEVELOPS LANDMINE DETECTION TECHNOLOGY USING BACTERIA
Iranian researchers have been developing a technical capability of detecting landmines using bacteria.Brigadier General Ali Majidi told reporters in annual meeting of National Congress of Directors of Police Health Treatment Centers said; “last year we had unveiled identity recognition kit, and we will launch its industrial-scale manufacturing and production of these kits this year.”“Development of this kit will help us from dependence on imports, since domestically manufactured kits are as good as its foreign counterparts,” he added. He also unveiled development of bacteria detection technology of landmines, saying that “developing bacteria landmine detection with applications in demining the country’s mine fields is being finalized. The technology can help demine the minefields in larger parts of war fronts of Iran.”Majidi added; “Laboratory tests have been positive and we are testing them further for field experimentation. Once these field experimentations are finished successfully, then we can begin using it for clearing the landmines in the country.”These kits have no foreign equivalent that we know of, and will be for the de-mining of terrain environment. “And off course it is possible with changing capabilities of this technology to serve other applications as well,” he added.
