Colombian Piedad Cordoba: I Have always Been Persecuted http://www.plenglish.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1602041&Itemid=1
Colombian Former Senator Piedad Cordoba, defender of human rights, asserted here that the State security authorities have always persecuted her. "We would like to see an army of patriotic police agents in this country that were concerned about life, security and welfare of people," the attorney and politician told the magazine Semana, and made the media and officials responsible for continuing making accusations without evidence. After highlighting that she is not part of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP), but she is committed to achieve peace in Colombia, she remarked that "there is a sector that is convinced that those who think differently are a threat to their privileges, to wealth concentration." Cordoba said there are no infiltrations in the protests in the northern region of Catatumbo, contrary to what the Defense Ministry said on Friday, with supposed evidence that link the farmer leaders to the guerrillas."People are nonconformist, because there are more than 90 percent of the people without drinkable water. They do not have health services, and more than 150,000 settlers (LANDLESS WORKERS) do not know how to read and write and that does not have to do anything with the FARC-EP, but with lack of development by the State, and that is what they are demanding," she said.
