J’Accuse!The Jerusalem Post is known for perpetrating hoaxes based on fake reports of anti-Semitism. It published a story purporting that Norway was riddled with anti-Semitism. Turns out the report was written by someone who made almost all of it up. He mistook his own personal fear of anti-Semitism with the real thing and made things up so people would be forewarned.On a slightly different note, Caroline Glick wrote an atrocious account blaming multi-culturalism and Norwegian criticism of Israel for the Breivik mass murder. This too is a perfect example of the Post’s desperate need to twist major news events to suit their ideological biases.Now, it’s the paper’s Ireland correspondent, Sarah Honig, who has regaled us with a dramatic episode of rabid anti-Semitism in a cozy village in the famed Ring of Kerry.  In the village of Cahersiveen, a sleeping giant of Jew-hatred laid in wait for her.  When she walked down the street encountering seemingly innocent Irish schoolchildren, and scratched beneath the surface, she found mad-dog Jew haters.

I thank God there’s someone like Honig around to alert us to this scurvy villain lurking in the hearts of Man (Irish man at least).  Here are some of the more choice bits from Honig’s account:There were no hints of affection there for us. On the town’s main thoroughfare, Church Street, I was buttonholed by three boisterous teenagers in Santa hats, carrying a collection box and big signs reading “Free Palestine.” They solicited my contribution.I asked: “Free Palestine from whom?” The cheery trio’s swift answer was unambiguous: “The Jews.”I pressed on: “Do you know where your money would go? “The boys: “To plant olive trees.”“Are you sure,” I continued, as kindly-looking little old ladies generously opened their purses and dropped coins and bills in the collection box, “that this money wouldn’t fund terrorists and murderers?” Their retort threw me for a loop: “What do you have against Palestinians? What have they done to you? They are only against Jews. Jews are evil.”
I am right here and now challenging Honig and the Post’s editor to provide any proof of this encounter: a tape recording would be definitive, but even contemporaneous notes would help.Short of that I’m going to call this account fiction embellished by the feverish ideological imagination of a wannabe reporter. U.S. government spokespersons today confirmed an attack by Syrian aircraft on the U.S. Naval Station in Norfolk, Virginia. The target appeared to be a shipment of Patriot surface-to-air missiles intended for Israel.Syrian officials neither confirmed nor denied responsibility, but had previously stated that the installation of weapons in Israel that might endanger their reconnaissance flights over Israeli territory would be considered a provocative act and a “red line” that they would not permit to be crossed.

Israel and Syria have no mutual agreement that allows each to overfly the other’s territory, and the same is true of Lebanon and Israel.The United States and Israel have each lodged separate protests to the United Nations. “Our sovereign territory has been violated and attacked,” said U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice. “We would never do something like that to Syria, because we obey international law. We therefore ask the United Nations to provide redress for this action.”Israel similarly protested that it had the right to procure defensive weapons. “The Patriots are a defensive weapons system that can only be used against aircraft that violate our airspace,” said Eviatar Manor, Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations. “Every nation has the right to defend against violation of its territory.”

Ethiopia: Another journalist sent to prison!
Another Muslim journalist has been arrested by the Ethiopian autocratic regime in an attempt to suppress the yearlong peaceful public resistance launched by the Muslim community in the country.Solomon Kebede was taken into custody on January 17, 2013 while going to his office in Sar Bet. He was immediately whisked to the notorious Central Investigation Center (aka Maekelawi) that has gained infamy for severe torture of detainees according to many international human rights reports.So far no member of Kebede’s family has been allowed to see him including his elderly mother who lived with him before his arrest. The regime also conducted a massive search of his house in a manner indicating that it aimed to frame him on terrorism charges.The Ethiopian regime claims that Kebede was arrested because of his involvement in “terrorism.” Just like in other parts of the world, the “terrorist” label is used by the regime to arrest Muslim activists and journalists. Kebede was the managing director and columnist of a well-known Islamic monthly magazine in Ethiopia, Yemuslimoch Guday (Muslims Affairs). The government banned Yemuslimoch Guday in July 2012.Yemuslimoch Guday was well known for criticizing the regime for its unconstitutional intervention in religious affairs. The magazine was also in the vanguard condemning the nationwide illegal campaign of “de-radicalization” by the coalition of the regime and the Mejlis (Muslim Council).Kebede’s arrest is not the only move by the regime against Yemuslimoch Guday. The editor-in-chief of the magazine, Yusuph Getachew, was arrested in July 2012 and charged as a “terrorist.” He was accused, along with Ahmedin Jebel, a famous historian and columnist of the magazine, of trying to overthrow the regime. This is a ploy used by most dictatorial regimes to stifle any criticism of their oppressive policies.Totally disregarding condemnations from International Human & Religious Rights Organizations and calls to desist, the Ethiopian regime has also been closing down Islamic organizations, arresting Imams, and closing down mosques and madrassas in order to suppress the wave of Islamic awakening in Ethiopia. All types of Muslim media outlets are facing severe crackdown and the regime is adopting extreme measures to halt the yearlong after-Juma weekly demonstrations that have occurred throughout the country.So far, the regime has used the infamous "Anti Terrorism Law" ratified in 2009 to convict more than a dozen journalists that criticized the oppressive and illegitimate policies of the Ethiopian ruling caste.Kebede is still under a 14-day detention order and many fear he is probably being tortured as have all the other 28 detainees in connection with the Muslim popular movement.The future seems gloomy for journalists in a country that many critics describe as “a failed state” due to its dictatorial tendencies and practices.
