La Zona de Reserva Campesina del Valle del Río Scimitar, an urgent need http://prensarural.org/spip/spip.php?article3555

For the defense of territory and human resources, from 9 to 22 January 2010 were performed in the Cimitarra River Valley Ecological Camp II, where social, workers, peasants and students were  involved in taking something from their experience in training each of the paths of the 7 routes from where the attendees were dispursed,

Against Plan Colombia and the spraying that affects the catch pan and the dignified life of the peasantry, against the multinationals and development policies that neglect the sector and against a state that supports and plays deaf at human rights violations in the area.Farmers organized an URGENT call for regulation of their Peasant Reserve Area.

The video includes comments, testimonials and several photographs of the area, in order to recognize through the alternative media, other sectors of the country that cries for a non-military presence in the state, calls for  education, health and decent living.

The urgency of regulating the Peasant Reserve Area is evident in the current landscape of the region, due to  environmental problems of pollution of water sources, deforestation, soil fumigation and damage, indiscriminate deforestation, overfishing, among others, are some the arguments of the Asociación Campesina del Valle del Río Scimitar (AVCV) and the rural community of the region to the Colombian state.

Urgent action is issuing a complaint over  the motion against  these peasant communities, asking for no more human rights violations, no more extrajudicial killings or crimes of state, and against the expropriation of  the peasants on bahalf of the multinationals, no more spraying to eliminate the production of  crops for bread production  and to stop jeopardizing  the health of residents.

The ACVC with CAHUCOPANA, ASCAMCAT, among other peasant organizations in Colombia claim and make themselves heard through legal action nationally and internationally, it is the duty of every Colombian recognize this situation and bring to an early peaceful solution to the social and armed conflict that our country is undergoing.

A third palm company, Urapalma, also accused of links with paramilitaries, nearly won approval for a grant before its application stalled because of missing paperwork. Critics say such grants defeat the antidrug mission of Plan Colombia. "Plan Colombia is fighting against drugs militarily at the same time it gives money to support palm, which is used by paramilitary mafias to launder money," says Colombian Senator Gustavo Petro, an outspoken critic of the palm industry. "The United States is implicitly subsidizing drug traffickers."

Spooks and Apartheid Maker Team Up in Haiti http://bsnorrell.blogspot.com/2010/01/spooks-and-apartheid-maker-team-up-in.html

CIA contractor Evergreen International Aviation, Inc., and the Israeli border spy contractor Elbit Systems, have teamed up to fly surveillance drones over Haiti orphanages in the remote mountains of Haiti. As Danske Bank divested in Elbit investments because of Elbit's ethics violations, Evergreen publicly announced it has teamed up with Elbit for air surveillance of Haiti orphanages.

Elbit, the Israeli defense contractor, built surveillance equipment on the Palestine border. Elbit was subcontracted by Boeing to construct spy technology on the Arizona border.Evergreen, with long standing ties to the CIA, is based in McMinnville, Oregon. In Haiti, Evergreen announced it has flown "missions to survey rural orphanages in Haiti employing Elbit Systems' Skylark® I LE Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. The team flew missions from the mountains of Haiti at 5,200 feet in the vicinity of Port-au-Prince."

"Evergreen Unmanned Systems was supported by Elbit Systems of Israel, using its Skylark® I LE System, to fly into these areas searching for signs of life. Evergreen Helicopters donated airlift support to position both teams into the region," Evergreen said in a statement, calling it a "pioneering effort" between Evergreen and Elbit. The use of drones in Haiti follows the protest in November at Fort Huachuca Army Intelligence Center in Arizona. Human rights activists demanded a halt to US torture and the use of drones, unmanned aircraft, by the US military for rogue assassinations which are also killing civilians in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

HILLARY CLINTON’S PRESCRIPTION – MAKE THE WORLD A NATO PROTECTORATE   http://fromthewilderness.wordpress.com/2010/02/01/hilliary-clintons-prescription-make-the-world-a-nato-protectorate/

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was busy in London and Paris last week advancing the new Euro-Atlantic agenda for the world. When a U.S. secretary of state speaks the world pays heed. Any nation that doesn’t will suffer the consequences of that inattention, that disrespect toward the imperatrix mundi.

The last generation’s foreign policy hubris and megalomania of the West, epitomized by its wars in Southeast Europe and South Asia and the Middle East, may be headed into far more dangerous territory.Grandiosity, arrogance and perceived impunity blind those afflicted with them, whether individuals or nations. No clearer example exists than Secretary Clinton’s remarks in Paris on January 29. To demonstrate the worldview of those she represents – that the United States and Europe are the incontestable metropolises and rulers by right of the planet – early in her address Clinton said “I appreciate the opportunity to discuss a matter of great consequence to the United States, France, and every country on this continent and far beyond the borders: the future of European security.” [8

Progressive London meeting and the "imperial temptation of the British" http://www.vheadline.com/readnews.asp?id=87975

Another interesting insight of Gott's address was the questioning of a common-held belief among the left in the UK that Tony Blair was George W. Bush's "poodle." No true, Gott suggests, and he maintains that Blair was using the US for his own ends ... namely to revive Britain's imperial ambitions, even though Whitehall cannot imagine a world in which Britain is not allied to the United States of America.

Mark Weisbrot of the Washington-based Center for Economic & Policy Research added a few interesting points when he talked about US imperialism as exercised in Haiti, such as when he questioned the validity of accusations from some Latin American leaders that the US has occupied Haiti. The intervention has been a mess, he stated, because the US got their priorities wrong, stressing the militarization of humanitarian aid above common sense and dealing with the urgent issues of medical and food distribution.

Weisbrot said the most likely scenario is that the US will let UN forces continue as the island's security force, adding a caveat: but who knows? The insight on an attempt to revive British imperialism could explain the presence of military units in Guyana near the Venezuelan border and special forces assistance in Colombia in alliance with the US war effort.Gott's insights will open an important debate, as he urged the UK left to campaign against the revival of British imperialism and the alliance with the USA.

Canadians are the Terror Threat http://www.mtl911truth.org/?p=2987

The threat of a ‘terror attack’, most likely a false flag, are very real and it looks to me like the media and governments are doing their best to portray protesters as terrorists. What would the globalists have to gain from staging a false flag in Canada? That is the question, because if the goal here is to make Canadians look like terrorists, that is very different from causing an incident and using as a pretense to go to war against a foreign country. What I am concerned about is that they may move to the next step and take their domestic war efforts to the next level.

Chavez Urges People to Avoid Provocations http://www.insidecostarica.com/dailynews/2010/february/01/latam-10020102.htm

I tell the people to not fall into provocations, said President Hugo Chavez, who thinks that an entrepreneurial communications group and its allies are seeking a pretext to promote destabilization.

"That is why I tell the Venezuelan people to not fall into provocations: do not play the game of an entrepreneurial communications group and its allies who are seeking a pretext to disrupt national peace," the president said in reference to recent demonstrations due to the closure of RCTV and five other TV channels that violated Venezuelan law.

Once again, the opposition is trying to trick certain groups into doing their work, "using them as cannon fodder in protests which it does not dare face," said Chavez, who noted that the Revolution cannot lose initiative and must keep the same fighting pace in all fields.Chavez called on the people to participate "in the battle, with the party, the students, the working class, the farmers' movements, women, the entire vanguard, to preserve peace and tranquility."

President Daniel Ortega says his government will not recognize the authority of newly inaugurated President Porfirio Lobo in Honduras, but Nicaragua will maintain economic and trade relations with the neighboring country.

Lobo has been scrambling since his inauguration last week to restore diplomatic relations with the international community. Honduras was cut off from foreign aid in June after then-President Manuel Zelaya was forced into exile, cutting short his term.Ortega said Saturday night that he had no reason to believe that those who forced Zelaya out of office were no longer in power."We feel threatened," said Ortega.

Technocracy and the New World Order: Part 1 http://www.jbs.org/jbs-news-feed/5906-technocracy-resurgent-for-the-new-world-order-prospects-for-carbon-currency

The idea of a global currency has been kicking around for several years now, most visibly in last year’s G20 meeting in Pittsburgh — a clear sign that the march toward world government, also known as the “new world order,” is very much on track. A new investigation suggests that the global currency won’t be just another euro — a globalized fiat money.

Instead, it will be based on carbon, and this will bring it into alignment with a variety of concerns, including fossil fuels depletion (also known as "peak oil") and anthropogenic climate change (ACC), as well as the belief among the new world orderlies that populations need to be monitored and controlled.

No, the drinkable water pipelines are not for red ones only, no. That will also benefit rich people, middle class, people against us,” emphasized the President of Venezuela Hugo Chavez.

Chavez reiterated that every progress executed from the Government are thought taking into account the needs of the entire people without any kind of of distinction.Furthermore, Chavez stated that regarding the energy saving plan, to date more than 27 million light incandescent light bulbs have been replaced. The goal is to reach 100 million.

President Chavez stated that saving energy bulbs consume 20% less than traditional bulbs. “Energy-saving bulbs cannot be found in the local market, because capitalists want people to consume more and pay more. If people find energy-saving bulbs, store owners put hem at really high prices so consumers are forced to buy incandescent bulbs,” he added. In this regard, Chavez underscored that the Government is replacing the bulbs for free and from house to house nationwide.

War Spending Surges in Obama's Budget http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0110/32272.html?igoogle=1

President Barack Obama’s new budget, to be released Monday, forecasts two consecutive years of near $160 billion in war funding, far more than he hoped when elected and only modestly less than the last years of the Bush Administration.

In 2011 alone, the revised numbers are triple what the president included in his spending plan a year ago. And the strain shows itself in new deficit projections, already hobbled by lagging revenues due to the weak economy.

Taxing the Rich Passes in Oregon http://www.workerscompass.org

Thousands of Oregon workers fought valiantly over the past weeks to ensure that corporations and the rich will see their taxes raised, so that social services, health care, and education could be saved. Massive phone banking operations, door-to-door canvassing, and rallies were used by union and community members to educate the public about a progressive tax measure used to offset the state's dire budget situation.

The campaign was indisputably class war, and the corporations came out firing — virtually every newspaper in Oregon shed their alleged "objectivity" and exposed their subservience to the corporations. Oregon's largest newspaper, The Oregonian, displayed giant front page ads —daily — in order to defeat the measures (part of the ad showcased an article by Phil Knight —founder of Oregon company Nike — who spoke of corporate apocalypse if the tax measures passed). This, along with the countless false advertisements on TV and radio, shows the high level of understanding that workers in Oregon displayed in voting to pass the measures by a landslide.

Colombian Army admits  that bombing indigenous community that left wounded was wrong http://www.telesurtv.net/noticias/secciones/nota/66136-NN/ejercito-colombiano-admite-haber-herido-a-indigenas-en-bombardeo-erroneo/

The Colombian army has admitted injuring a couple of Indians during an erroneous bombing to neutralize the block Northwest of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), performed during the early hours of Sunday in the municipalities and Murundó Mutatá (northwest).

"Unfortunately in one of the missions several were wounded with shrapnel two indigenous from Embera Katio community," said the seventh division of the Colombian Army through a statement released this Sunday.

The indigenous authorities of the region pointed out, however, that the couple's son, only 20 months, also was seriously injured along with another person of the same community and were taken to St. Vincent de Paul Hospital in Medellin and a hospital Carepa municipality, Antioquia department.

In the statement, the military said "We deployed all available resources to evacuate these people to medical centers of the highest quality.  William Carupia of the Indigenous Organization of Antioquia, condemned the attack victims were Aboriginal and said the bombing also were victims of strafing(To attack with a machine gun or cannon from a low- flying aircraft) from helicopters in the early afternoon on Sunday.

"These past 20 months we have had militarized forces around here and we are wondering  why this attack  happened  in this indigenous community, why a  bombing if there has been a presence of the security forces have been constantly here," he asked Carupia indigenous organizations denounced  the Army  for  its  indiscriminate bombing of communities.

"We want human rights humanitarian agencies, national indigenous organizations (...) verify this situation," said indigenous leader and also denied that theres any  illegal armed groups operating in the  area because it is heavily militarized. "We have not had any communication with the Army to respond to us and tell us why this happened, and we demand they justify themselves saying there was an armed group (...) because there is not," he added.

Military officials have said that these operations deployed in the region seek to attack the FARC members who, the army said killed several community leaders from the area last December.

Heated protests take place over BT brinjal in India http://www.thehindu.com/2010/02/01/stories/2010020161451100.htm

Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh faced angry protests at the consultations on Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) brinjal at the Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture here on Sunday. The demonstration by activists of farmers’ and non-governmental organisations, opposing introduction of genetically modified crops began with the Minister’s entry at the institute.

The protesters, led by Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham president K. Ramakrishna, blocked his entry to the auditorium.Others, including activists of the Swadeshi Jagaran Manch, raised slogans such as ‘Bt brinjal go back’ and ‘Monsanto agents go back.’ The exercise did not commence for one hour. Mr. Ramesh lost his cool several times and prompted the police to “push out” the protesters after they did not heed his requests to stop shouting.

He asked the protesters not to “bring disrepute to Hyderabad,” as nowhere else were such uncalled-for interruptions marred the public consultations.Mr. Ramesh described as unfortunate the polarisation of the debate from the beginning. It was not correct to dub those supporting Bt brinjal as ‘agents of Monsanto’ and the opponents as ‘anti-technology.’

Ecuador President Correa Blasts Aid Imperialism on Haiti Trip http://hcvanalysis.wordpress.com/2010/01/31/ecuador-president-correa-blasts-aid-imperialism-on-haiti-trip/

Ecuadoran President Rafael Correa criticized “imperialism” in aid efforts in Haiti during a visit to the stricken nation Friday, echoing criticism leveled by other leftist Latin American leaders. “There is a lot of imperialism among the donors. They donate first, but most of it goes back to them,” he said at a joint press conference with Haiti’s President Rene Preval.

Without naming specific programs, he criticized both military relief efforts and those of foreign non-governmental organizations.Correa is the second foreign leader to visit Haiti since a devastating quake struck the country January 12, killing at least 170,000 people and prompting a massive international relief effort to help the survivors.

Correa visited Haiti as a representative for the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), a regional bloc he currently heads. Before taking a helicopter flight over the Haitian capital to assess the damage, Correa said he was delivering medical aid and had brought 12 Ecuadoran doctors with him.

UNASUR is “going to be present” to help Haiti rebuild, he pledged. “We want the little or the lot with which we can help from UNASUR to get to the Haitian people,” he said.Correa’s criticism of the aid response to the devastating 7.0-quake echoes charges made by Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez and Bolivian President Evo Morales.

Both leftist leaders have reserved particularly harsh criticism for the US effort in Haiti, which has included the deployment of some 20,000 military personnel in and around Haiti and the earmarking of millions of dollars in aid.“We have a great debt to Haiti,” Correa said, referring to Haiti’s support for Latin American liberator Simon Bolivar.

US REFUSES TO EXTRADITE THIS CRIMINAL

I lied because I was taught by the CIA, says Posada Carriles http://www.ain.cubaweb.cu/idioma/ingles/2010/0130posada.htm

The attorney Jose Pertierra denounced the confessed terrorist Luis Posada Carriles argued before the Federal Court of El Paso, that his long years of work with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) had misled him, confused him and that he was suffering from memory loss.

Pertierra says that the government wants to exclude from trial all evidence of the relationship of Posada Carriles with the CIA, saying that it was not relevant and that is confidential. That's because, clarifies Pertierra, Washington knows Posada has much to say and it is trying to limit the testimony and evidence as much as possible in order to prevent the crimes committed by Posada Carriles through decades of work for the CIA from coming to light. There are declassified CIA cables and confessions of the perpetrators of the crime which state that Posada masterminded the bombing of a Cubana airliner Aviation on October 6th 1976, when 73 people died, the lawyer recalled. He also recalled that Venezuela filed a request for his extradition in June 2005 and it is still pending without the White House answering to it, and that Posada confessed to The New York Times in 1998, that he orchestrated a terrorist campaign against the hotels and restaurants in Havana.

In previous documents, Posada claimed that everything he did in Latin America was "on behalf of Washington"; he knows that the more he threatens to tell of his relationship with the CIA, the more trembling from those who hide the skeletons in Washington, says Pertierra. In order to convince Judge Cardone that his relationship with the CIA is relevant to the process in which they accuse him of being a liar, Posada's defense is that the CIA taught him how to lie, concluded the lawyer

Venezuela's PDVSA, Italy's ENI seal $17 billion Orinoco Oil Joint Venture http://www.laht.com/article.asp?ArticleId=351190&CategoryId=10717

Scaroni, meanwhile, described as a dream come true ENI's share in the joint venture, in which PDVSA will have 60% of the shares. The companies will operate a 424-square-kilometer (164-square-mile) area of the Junin 5 block and could begin producing roughly 75,000 barrels of crude per day in 2014.

Chavez noted that the US Geological Survey recently put the amount of recoverable heavy crude in the Orinoco Belt at 513 billion barrels, meaning Venezuela holds the world's biggest oil reserves. That US government agency said in its assessment, released Friday, that that oil region of eastern Venezuela was the largest accumulation its technicians had ever assessed.

PDVSA had earlier estimated that the Orinoco Belt had 1.3 trillion barrels of oil but that only 280 billion was technically recoverable. But the USGS study, the first to provide a precise estimate of the amount of oil technically recoverable with current technology and methods, says the area is twice as crude-rich and therefore puts Venezuela's reserves well ahead of Saudi Arabia's total of 266 billion barrels.

US firm kicked out of Peru mining group for pollution  http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20100130/sc_afp/peruusminingenvironment

IMA (AFP) – Peru's mining, oil and energy association (SNMPE) said Saturday it has expelled US mining company Doe Run from its roster for not cleaning up its pollution problems, which environmentalists say are among the worst in the world.

"It has not shown... any willingness to comply with its environmental commitments and its obligations to the country, its workers, the La Oroya population and its creditors," SNMPE said in a statement.

Doe Run in 1997 took over La Oroya mining complex and the Cobriza copper mine in Peru's central Andean mountain region, where it mines for lead, copper, zinc, silver, gold and a series of byproducts including sulfuric acid.

Oil spilled at east Texas port as ships collide http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_OIL_SPILL?SITE=FLTAM&SECTION=US

As much as 450,000 gallons of crude oil spilled in a southeast Texas port Saturday after two vessels collided, the U.S. Coast Guard said. No injuries have been reported, but part of the port has been closed and some nearby residents have been evacuated.

Port Arthur police Sgt. Ken Carona told television station KFDM that fewer than 100 people were evacuated from the area because of hydrogen sulfide - a hazardous gas with a rotten egg smell - that was emanating from the oil.

Are they that sick? Did US weather weapon destroy Haiti? http://www.sfbayview.com/2010/are-they-that-sick-did-u-s-weather-weapon-destroy-haiti/

I suspect the latter, and one of the reasons is oil. Let us not forget: Haiti has oil! Oil is one of the main components of the American g.o.d.: gold, oil and drugs. They will do anything for their god. The media is now playing up the scramble to help Haiti by Americans as a cover for what really went down and to keep people thinking the earthquake was a “natural disaster” when in fact HAARP created it either deliberately or unintentionally. This is my theory. Like the title of Charles Barkley’s book, “I may be wrong, but I doubt it.”

Morocco orders closure of opposition newspaper http://www.ww4report.com/node/8280

Moroccan authorities ordered closed the independent news magazine Le Journal Hebdomadaire and seized its assets this week, following what editors and press freedom advocates call a long campaign of harassment.

Le Journal Hebdomadaire was dealt a devastating financial blow in 2006 when a Moroccan court ordered that it pay 3 million dirhams (US$354,000) damages in a defamation case filed by Claude Moniquet, head of the Brussels-based European Strategic Intelligence and Security Center. http://www.neoconeurope.eu/Foundation_for_the_Defense_of_DemocraciesMoniquet said Le Journal Hebdomadaire had defamed him in an article questioning his group's independence. The organization had issued a report on the disputed Western Sahara that the news magazine said closely reflected the official view of the Moroccan government.

Jamaï left the country after the 2006 court decision and a series of government-inspired cases of harassment against the news magazine. Harassment of Le Journal Hebdomadaire appeared to ease for a time. But when Jamaï returned to Morocco in 2009 and resumed his critical journalism, he said, the government intensified its efforts to have advertisers boycott Le Journal Hebdomadaire. In September 2009, the Supreme Court upheld the damage award in the Moniquet case.

"We condemn the strategy of using the courts to silence critical publications," said CPJ Middle East and North Africa Program coordinator Mohamed Abdel Dayem. CPJ wrote to King Mohamed VI in July 2009 to express disappointment with "the continuous use of the courts to suppress freedom of expression." (BBC World Service, Jan. 30; CPJ, Jan. 29)

Drones and Death: The Israeli Connection http://dissidentvoice.org/2010/01/drones-and-death-the-israeli-connection/

But the US isn’t alone in developing and deploying drone technology. I became aware of Israel’s use of drones during its December 2008/January 2009 invasion of Gaza. Israel deploys two types of hunter/killer: the “Hermes,” produced by Elbit Systems Ltd, and the “Heron,” produced by the government-owned Israeli Aerospace Industries.

Recently – by Googling “Israeli drones” – I learned that Israel pioneered the drone and that Israel purveys that cutting edge weaponry throughout the world. As far back as 1982 Israel used drones against Syria. In the early nineties Israeli drones were used in the Kosovo campaign. Israeli drones invade the skies over Lebanon and patrol occupied West Bank and besieged Gaza. Israeli drones reportedly can reach Iran.

People are not pollution: Population limits are not green http://www.greenleft.org.au/2010/824/42408

Wrong diagnosis, wrong cure The view that stopping immigration to wealthy countries is a good way to fight global warming rests on the simplistic idea that because immigrants come from countries with low per capita emissions to countries with high per capita emissions, they increase total emissions simply by moving.

This argument is false on its face. To calculate “per capita emissions”, we simply divide a country’s total greenhouse gas emissions by its total population. This provides a useful baseline for comparing countries of different sizes — but it tells us nothing at all about the emissions that can actually be attributed to individuals. In fact, most emissions are caused by industrial and other processes over which individuals have no control.

In Canada, for example, no change in the number of immigrants will have any effect on the oil extraction industry at the Alberta Tar Sands, described by George Monbiot as “the world’s biggest single industrial source of carbon emissions”.  Reducing immigration to the US will have no effect whatsoever on the massive military spending — up 50% in the past decade — which ensures that the Pentagon is the world’s biggest consumer of oil. To put that in context: a study published in March 2008 found that the CO2 emissions caused directly by the Iraq war until then were equivalent to putting 25 million more cars on the road in the US.

THE FATEFUL GEOLOGICAL PRIZE – HAITI http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=17287

According to Marguerite Laurent ('Ezili Dantò') of the Haitian Lawyers’ Leadership Network, under the guise of emergency relief work, the US, France and Canada are engaged in a balkanization of the island for future mineral control. She reports rumors that Canada wants the North of Haiti where Canadian mining interests are already present. The US wants Port-au-Prince and the island of La Gonaive just offshore –

an area identified in Aristide’s development book as having vast oil resources, and which is bitterly contested by France. She further states that China, with UN veto power over the de facto UN-occupied country, may have something to say against such a US-France-Canada carve up of the vast wealth of the nation.

Mexico's Narco Wars : Capos Bite Dust as Madness Continues  http://theragblog.blogspot.com/2010/01/mexicos-narco-wars-capos-bite-dust-as.html

Now, in a bold initiative to turn the tables on the narcos, the Mexican army is training spies to infiltrate the drug gangs and embed under deep cover. The only flaw in this innovative strategy is that the army unit from which the spies are being selected and trained, the Aero Mobile Special Forces Group or GAFES has itself been compromised by the drug cartels.

Trained at the Center for Special Forces in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, in drug war strategies in the late 1990s, dozens of GAFES deserted the military and joined the narco gangs, resurfacing in the early years of the decade as Los Zetas, dread enforcers for the Gulf Cartel who today enjoy full-blown cartel status themselves.

The cartels have not limited their reach to Mexican police agencies. U.S. Homeland Security's Border Protection and Customs Enforcement is prosecuting at least eight cases involving suspected drug cartel implants in their ranks. Mandated by Congress to boost agent numbers to 20,000 by 2010, Homeland Security launched an aggressive recruitment campaign along the border largely directed at Mexican-Americans, offering the drug gangs a golden opportunity to infiltrate their operators.

SENATE BURGLARY: CIA DOMESTIC BLACK-OP TEAM ARRESTED : False Flag Specialist Among Them http://www.veteranstoday.com/2010/01/30/senate-burglary-cia-domestic-black-op-team-arrested/

Last week’s breakin at Senator Mary Landrieu’s office in the New Orleans Federal Building was more than it seemed, much more. All of the 4 arrested had been trained by the CIA and, possibly, Israel. One arrested, Stan Dai, is listed as an Operations Officer of the Department of Defense Irregular Warfare Program and a known expert and lecturer on, not only surveillance but explosives training, assassinations and “false flag operations.”

If you wanted a plane to crash, an enemy to get sick and die or a building to blow up, Dai would be the man to know how to make it happen. Problem is, his skills were being used as part of a criminal conspiracy inside the United States against members of our own government.

Original reports on the “break-in” were also wrong. One of those arrested was found blocks away with a covert receiver, managing the office bugs. The man in the car is identified as Stan Dai, Operations Officer for the Department of Defense Irregular Warfare Program:”one of the four was arrested with a listening device in a car blocks from the senator’s offices.” The FBI’s affidavit noted that Flanagan and Basel were in the building with O’Keefe, and a federal law enforcement official confirmed to AP that Dai was the one in the car.”

Detained in Oaxaca: Human Rights Violations http://censored-news.blogspot.com/2010/01/detained-in-oaxaca-human-rights.html

On Thursday January 28, at around 9 p.m. Andrea Caraballo, Guadalupe Rodriguez Lopez, James Wells and Jennifer Lawhorne were eating ice cream in the zocalo of Oaxaca. At that time, one of us recognized the face of the governor of Oaxaca who was about nine feet away from us. As a friend of Brad Will, a U.S. journalist who was killed in Oaxaca in 2006, one of us took advantage of the governor's presence to ask him about the case of Mr. Will, which to this day remains unresolved. We didn't receive a response from the governor who continued walking and we continued strolling in the zocalo with our ice creams.

Five minutes later, between six and eight police agents, some in official uniform and others dressed in plainclothes, surrounded us, demanding to see our identifications and made us walk with them to a municipal police truck. While the police forced us to get into the back of the truck, we asked them why they were taking us away and to where they were going to take us. The police refused to give us any information.

A government adviser on combating extremism among young Muslims today accepted substantial undisclosed damages over a newspaper claim that he supported al-Qa'ida.Systems engineer Inayat Bunglawala, who lives in Luton, is a spokesman at the Muslim Council of Britain and, in 2005, was appointed one of seven conveners for a Home office taskforce.

He brought libel proceedings over a March 2009 Mail on Sunday article which alleged there were strong grounds to suspect him of unlawfully stabbing a man at his home in December 2008, and that he was an extremist who supported Abu Qatada and al-Qa'ida.

His solicitor, Stevie Loughrey, told Mr Justice Eady at London's High Court that Mr Bunglawala did not commit any criminal act in relation to the December 2008 incident. As Associated Newspapers now accepted, he was forced to act in self-defence to protect himself and his family against an intruder, who it later turned out was so drunk he had no recollection of the incident.

The incestuous links between NGOs and states and transnational http://www.voltairenet.org/article163755.html

To conduct their work, humanitarian NGOs courting big donors: transnational corporations and states. This proximity encourages profiteering leaders and the politicization of the major causes. Slowly, some associations to derive targets unrelated to their official goals. Julian Teil explores this evolution through several examples. Many international solidarity programs are preferred by inter-governmental organizations, followed closely by NGOs and the media. Some of them do not seem to represent the values and ideals they claim. A brief overview can decipher some relationships that are forged. We focus here on a concept born in the 90s and a solidarity program under development. This is not to acknowledge the different actors and intermediaries of these programs, but to investigate the reports that are maintained in order to prepare an overview of the context in which they undertake.

The 1%, Africa and networks  That upon issuance of the Century Walking the January 5, 1994 the President of the General Council of Hauts-de-Seine and Interior Minister Charles Pasqua, said: "It is necessary that France take the lead d 'a crusade for development. We know that today, all the experts are there to say, if we spend on development assistance by industrialized countries, underdeveloped, the equivalent of 1% of our GDP, the problem would resolved. This practice is already established within the mixed company (SEM) 92 Co, founded at the initiative of Mr. Pasqua and directed by his relatives.

The real action of 92 Co in Gabon have been done without bidding and have proved very costly. No formal link with the foregoing, amounts equivalent to what has been spent has been offered by the Head of State of Gabon to finance political activities of Mr. Pasqua and his staff  http://www.amazon.fr/Noir-silence-François-Xavier-Verschave/dp/2912485150/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1264693921&sr=1-2Only 14 years later, October 24, 2008 the General Council of Hauts-de-Seine vote dissolution of the company, which was nevertheless the subject of sharp criticism over a decade. The opposition (PS, Green, PC) denounced its opacity and regretted the absence of NGOs in the project http://archives.lesechos.fr/archives/2008/lesechos.fr/10/24/300304137.htm

The dedication of a portion of the budget of a public or mixed operation of international solidarity when it is not the purpose of this organization is a misuse of public funds, regardless of the worthiness of these operations. Or rather, "was a diversion of funds" because the Oudin-Santini Law, effective January 27, 2005, allows municipalities, certain public institutions of cooperation in mixed unions over public services of drinking water the water agencies, etc.. to allocate 1% of their budget for actions of international solidarity and cooperation. This law, according to Andre Santini "is both a way to export the French model of management of water, but also a means of conquering new markets for French groups   http://seaus.free.fr/spip.php?article392

This legislation legalized the practice hitherto existing tort including some water agencies (Seine Normandy and the Rhine-Meuse), denounced by the Court of Auditors in 2002 http://www.bakchich.info/article2676.html

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

André Santini, principal author of this law, was vice-chairman of the parliamentary study group on water issues. This close to Charles Pasqua was also vice-president at General Council of Hauts-de-Seine, Union President of the waters of Ile-de-France (SEDIF) and the Committee Seine Normandy Basin.  Water management in the Ile-de-France has been given until 2010 Generale des Eaux, Vivendi Environment reputation, and Veolia.  Committee Seine Normandy Basin, head of water in the region, Mr. Santini is assisted by a vice-president, Paul-Louis Girardot, also chairman of the Supervisory Board of Veolia Water and Vice-Chairman of Directors of Veolia Environnement.  Veolia Environnement in 2006 launched his independent assessment committee to "enrich the strategic vision of Veolia Environment. It includes among others Jean Michel Severino, Director General of the French Development Agency (AFD) and Philippe Leveque CEO of Care France. France enjoys Care Partnership in force through the Oudin-Santini Law and thank the various water agencies and the general council of Hauts de Seine in its report of 2009.  First recipient of the law Santini and first cooperation partner of 92, SOS Sahel is dedicated to greening the desert. It was after the great drought of 1973-1974 that Léopold Sédar Senghor, then President of Senegal, asked the French civil society and Africa to create an association to fight against famine. Thus was born in Dakar in November 1976, SOS Sahel. The NGO Action Against Hunger campaign for "ratify [the law Santini] at the European level (in order to help more people to have access to water and sanitation and this in agreement with the objectives Millennium) [5]. This proposal should be serious criticism insofar as it is to legalize the practice across Europe remains tort in many states.  Action Against Hunger is an international association founded in November 1979 under the name Action Internationale Contre la Faim (AICF) under the auspices of intellectuals whose Atlanticist Francoise Giroud, Guy Sorman, Jacques Attali, Bernard-Henry Levy. It was at the time of feeding in Pakistan Afghan Islamists fleeing the Red Army.  Four months after its founding in February 1980, AICF participates in a media event: "the march for survival." At the call of Doctors Without Borders, celebrities escorting a humanitarian convoy that was stopped at the Cambodian border. Would follow the heartbreaking images where Bernard Henry-Levi and Elie Wiesel implored the Vietnamese Communist troops let humanitarian aid to the Khmer Rouge, they just turn and let die of hunger. The march was organized covertly by the CIA with the help of Claude Malhuret [6]. It will prove later that there was no starvation in refugee camps Khmer Rouge.  The creation of the association was funded by Michel David-Weill, then chairman of the Franco-American bank Lazard and politically engaged in the anti-Soviet crusade. Jean Guyot, who joined Lazard in 1955, is the founder and first president of the NGO CARE France. Guy Sorman explains: "David-Weill wanted us to check this. But at the time, that exchange control was difficult to transfer funds between the United States and France. We have therefore decided to create a U.S. subsidiary "[7].  Thus, links between local communities, NGOs and generous patrons seem tainted by ulterior motives political or business far removed from ideal viewing.

The Global Water Initiative and the Water Efficient Maize for Africa  In 2007, a generous offering of 15 million dollars annually over 10 years to a group of NGOs for long-term actions to promote access to water. This is the Global Water Initiative (GWI).  The project is conducted in Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Senegal and nine other countries in Africa and Central America. It aims to provide communities with sustainable access to safe water and sanitation, especially access to water for the needs of rural production.  Seven NGOs involved in the GWI:   Action Against Hunger / Action against Hunger (AAH / ACF)   CARE [8]   Catholic Relief Services (CRS)   The World Conservation Union - IUCN   International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED)   Oxfam America   SOS Sahel. [9]  The program has been shaped by David White (Director of Operations Action Against Hunger USA) in collaboration with the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, which funds the project in its entirety [10].

Army mass grave in La Macarena http://www.cipcol.org/?p=1303

Jurist Jairo Ramírez, the secretary of the Permanent Committee for the Defense of Human Rights in Colombia, accompanied a delegation of British legislators to the site several weeks ago, when the magnitude of the La Macarena grave began to be discovered. “What we saw was chilling,” he told Público.

“An infinity of bodies, and on the surface hundreds of white wooden plaques with the inscription NN [name unknown] and dates from 2005 until today.”Ramírez adds: “The Army commander told us that they were guerrillas killed in combat, but the people in the region told us of a multitude of social leaders, campesinos and community human rights defenders who disappeared without a trace.”

La Macarena, the site of the grave, has been a very important site of U.S.-aided military operations since the mid-2000s. In this area, the U.S. government supported and advised the Colombian Army’s 2004-2006 “Plan Patriota” military offensive, and since 2007 has supported the “Plan for the Integral Consolidation of La Macarena” or PCIM, part of the new “Integrated Action” framework that is now guiding much U.S. assistance.http://www.cipcol.org/?p=1242

Canadian Mining and Popular Resistance in Honduras http://www.socialistproject.ca/bullet/301.php

And something interesting that we have to say is the fact that here in Honduras there exists the Asociación de Mineros de Honduras (Mining Association of Honduras). The projects for reforms in the mining industry initiated by (ousted) President Manuel Zelaya said that for the time being there would be no more mining exploitation or exploration of mines in the country. This was a severe blow to those who were trying, at the time, to mine gold out of our territories. As a result, the Mining Association of Honduras played a determinant role in the Honduran coup. The coup was mechanized by the huge transnational companies that had investments in the mining sector in Honduras.

We mobilise to defend our right to free expression.

6. We mobilise to denounce the plans of the oligarchy, which are nothing less than the dispossession of natural resources and the exploitation of the people.  7. We mobilise to denounce the Organisation of American States, the United Nations and the European Union, entities that are complacent with the coup-makers and that once again demonstrated that their reason for existence is to serve the powerful.

8. We mobilise to call, from the resistance, for a broad front as a space for electoral participation of the Honduran people that allows us to develop a new type of political instrument, so we are not used by the parties of the oligarchy that carried out the coup. 9. We mobilise to move forward the struggle for a democratic and grassroots National Constitutional Assembly, to have a new political constitution that allows for the re-founding of our country. We raise our voices full of life, dignity, justice, freedom and peace.

Bolivia: ‘We are here to serve people, not capitalists’ http://www.greenleft.org.au/2010/824/42365

Pledging to move the country towards “communitarian socialism”, Bolivian president Evo Morales proclaimed the death of the “colonial state” during the January 21 inauguration of his second term as president. He said “a new plurinational, autonomy and solidarity-based state is being born”.

However, Morales said: “Although the Armed Forces have participated in helping us attend to social demands, the recuperation of our natural resources, I feel something is missing ... unfortunately in some military institutes, they continue to teach that the enemy is socialism. “We have to change that. The real enemy is capitalism, not socialism. “We are not here to serve the capitalists; we are here to serve the people.”

Honduras; Obama’s new puppets on display  http://www.greenleft.org.au/2010/824/42372

On January 27, new puppets will take centre stage in the puppetry act in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. “President” Pepe Lobo (“elected” in a fraudulent poll on November 27 in which most Hondurans refused to vote) will accept the strings of attachment to the invisible power that continues to rule Honduras. This obscure and menacing group are an unelected corps of representatives of the army high command and the 10 ruling oligarchic families. They meet under the informal moderation of the US ambassador, with the blessing of the top Catholic clerics.

It is clear the coup was part of Washington’s strategy to re-militarise the region. The coup was followed by the agreement to install military bases in Colombia, and later in Panama; and by the decision to take the US Fourth Fleet out of mothballs and redeploy it to the southwest Caribbean theatre — offshore from Venezuela, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras. Obama has demonstrated not only his skills at “smart diplomacy”, but also his readiness to use the big stick — even if he has to go through denial acts and blame secretary of state Hillary Clinton for the more crude moves in this warfare.

Cheyenne River Sioux waiting disaster declaration from Obama http://www.examiner.com/x-34368-Rapid-City-Native-American-Culture-Examiner~y2010m1d27-CRST-awaiting-disaster-declaration-by-president-Obama

The first Native Tribe to officially support Barack Obama for president is now waiting for him to declare the reservation a disaster. According to a Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe (CRST) press release, 3,000 utility poles were downed during recent severe storms. CRST Chairman, Joseph Brings Plenty, has declared a state of emergency. Thousands of CRST residents have been without water, heat, and electricity for six days as of this morning. Experts relate it may be as long as one month to restore power across the reservation. Wind-chill factors in central South Dakota have been subzero.

The Shadow Prison Industry and Its Government Enablers http://americas.irc-online.org/am/6671

Elements of our criminal justice and immigration enforcement systems are spinning dangerously out of public control. Increasingly, the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are outsourcing their imprisonment and detention responsibilities to hundreds of contractors and subcontractors—with scant oversight, little transparency, and often tragic consequences. As a result, human rights abuses, squandering of public revenues, and unscrupulous profiteering pervade and pervert the U.S. system of crime and punishment.

Nato strategy to look at EU relations, says Albright  http://euobserver.com/9/29358

Relations between the EU and Nato are to be included in the new strategic concept for the military alliance currently being developed by a group of experts led by former US secretary of state Madeleine Albright."We need to maximise collaboration with the EU and make more use of political consultation," Ms Albright told MEPs in Brussels during a special hearing on Wednesday (27 January). Ms Albright was the US' foreign policy supremo during 1997-2001 when Nato launched its first military action in the former Yugoslavia. The 72-year old has now been appointed to chair an expert panel tasked to advise Nato secretary general Anders Fogh Ramussen on an updated "strategic concept" for the military alliance. The document will outline new security threats ranging from cyberattacks to terrorism and energy security and the way the military alliance, founded during the Cold War to protect Europe from a potential Soviet invasion, can respond.

UK Liberal MEP Andrew Duff asked Ms Albright if she was worried about the possibility of a "core group" of military-capable states establishing their own club within the EU – a provision enshrined in the bloc's new legal framework, the Lisbon Treaty.Ms Albright kept her remarks general and pointed out that her team's work was still ongoing. A draft concept is to be issued by Nato's secretary general in time for the November summit in Lisbon, when Nato leaders are meant to adopt the final document.

comment-notice how albright didnt answer MP Duff's question about a possible ''core group'' establishing their own club...

$708 Billion means Real Growth in Military Spending http://www.huffingtonpost.com/winslow-t-wheeler/the-new-pentagon-budget-p_b_441929.html

We witness an age of terror from 100 al Qaeda members that require a budget $200 billion higher than that during the cold war where we faced nuclear annihilation from the Soviets. OK military enthusiasts, please justify this.

Village children gassed while taking refuge from military http://alethonews.wordpress.com/2010/01/29/village-children-gassed-while-taking-refuge-from-military/

Over 20 village residents – including 14 children – were targeted by Israeli soldiers in a volley of tear gas and rubber coated bullets as they took refuge in the Tamimi family house in An Nabi Salih. The residents were not part of the weekly demonstration and children from surrounding houses had gathered there for safety. One boy was hit in the stomach with a gas canister. Five people, children and elderly women, were taken away in ambulances and treated for injuries including tear gas asphyxiation

Water pirates: They are working hard to make publicly owned water their privately held asset  http://vimeo.com/8521134

The Water Pirates is the first of many videos that explain why it is critical to defeat the water bond that will be on California’s November ballot. The $11 billion dollar measure is a pork-filled, naked power grab that will enrich a small group of wealthy powerful interests at the expense of an already bankrupt California - and that’s just for starters.

If it passes, it will kill The Delta and be the end for the biggest and most important estuary in North and South America, San Francisco Bay.Stop the water pirates! They are working hard to make publicly owned water their privately held asset. It’s happening now and the pirates need to be stopped! Watch and share this video. Vote NO on the water bond. Together, we can make what is wrong, right again.

"From wastewater to drinking water, big business is looking to cash in on public water systems and they've got a new tactic.""They're using desperate economic times to convince city officials that they should place a corporation between families and their ability to eat, drink, and clean.

U.S. Accused of Mismanaging Billions in Iraq  http://current.com/items/92022950_u-s-accused-of-mismanaging-billions-in-iraq.htm

The US special inspector general for Iraq reconstruction says the US state department's gross mismanagement of a multibillion-dollar contract for training Iraqi police has left US funds vulnerable to waste and fraud. In a scathing report, Stuart Bowen, strongly criticizes both the state department and DynCorp International, the firm that won the $2.5 billion dollar contract in 2004.

How many other Holocausts have occurred and why are they not remembered? http://www.paltelegraph.com/columnists/peter-eyre/3843-how-many-other-holocaust-occurred-and-why-are-they-not-remembered

Today, January 28,2010 is UN International Holocaust Remembrance Day, but why do we only remember this one event, when so many other holocausts have taken place? Think Armenia, Rwanda, the Congo, Cambodia, Sudan, Iraq, etc. Why such a high-profile focus on this one holocaust, while the many other holocausts never get a mention?

Holocaust remembrance is a boon for Israeli propaganda http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1145670.html

Wednesday was International Holocaust Remembrance Day, and an Israeli public relations drive like this hasn't been seen for ages. The timing of the unusual effort - never have so many ministers deployed across the globe - is not coincidental: When the world is talking Goldstone, we talk Holocaust, as if out to blur the impression. When the world talks occupation, we'll talk Iran as if we wanted them to forget.

Netanyahu spoke of a new "migration policy," one that is evil through and through. He malevolently lumped together migrant workers and wretched refugees - warning that they all endanger Israel, lower our wages, harm our security, make us into a third-world country and bring in drugs. He zealously supported our racist interior minister,

Eli Yishai, who has spoken of the migrants as the spreaders of diseases such as hepatitis, tuberculosis, AIDS and God knows what else.No Holocaust speech will erase these words of incitement and slander against migrants. No remembrance speech will obliterate the xenophobia that has reared its head in Israel, not only on the extreme right, as in Europe, but throughout government.

Ecuador: Indigenous Radio Station Spared Closure http://upsidedownworld.org/main/ecuador-archives-49/2340-ecuador-indigenous-radio-station-spared-closure-

Telecommunications Commission retracted a December decision to shut down an indigenous radio station. The commission, known as CONATEL, had previously determined that the “The Voice of Arutam” was responsible for inciting indigenous protesters to violence during a strike in September 2009 that cost the life of an indigenous bilingual teacher, Bosco Wisum.  One indigenous politician called the earlier decision “a Christmas present to Canadian mining companies” operating in the southern Amazonian region. Companies hoping to open up the area to gold and copper mining, such as Vancouver-based Corriente Resources, were the focal point of local protests in September. Corriente recently announced its sale for $653 million USD to a Chinese joint venture between the Tongling Nonferrous Metals Group Holdings Co. Ltd. and the China Railway Construction Corporation.

“The Voice of Arutam” is a Shuar indigenous radio station believed to be the only broadcaster critically informing listeners about the possible impacts of projected oil and mining extraction in the southern Amazon. Its bilingual programming in the Shuar language and Spanish has also provided important services to remote indigenous communities for decades. Arutam is the name of the Shuar spiritual guide.

Colombian Congress requests $3bn for military air defense http://colombiareports.com/colombia-news/news/7930-colombian-congress-requests-3bn-for-military-air-defense.html

Colombia's Congress has requested that the Ministry of Defense invest in more sophisticated weaponry, due to the country's current turbulent relations with Venezuela.Vice President of Congress Santiago Castro suggested an investment of up to $3 billion to improve Colombia's air force, due to the country's supposed vulnerability to air attack by its socialist neighbor.

"Colombia cannot enter into an arms race... But the Plan of Purchase must be changed this year," said Castro. After allegations that a Venezuelan military helicopter entered Colombian airspace this week, the vice president of Congress argued that, "If next time we do not respond to these provocations we will be giving the erroneous message that what we are demonstrating is not caution but weakness."

"Venezuelan pilots must know that if they cross the border they will be in danger ... A Venezuelan military helicopter entering Colombian airspace is a military aggression and a provocation," he added.Congress is currently awaiting the results of a discussion on the measures to be taken by the Colombian government in the face of external military aggression, in terms of military, political, economic and national security policies.

comment-This is very dangerous,we are on the precipice of something that could trigger a continental war pitting us gov puppet regimes and their millitaries  against progressive gov majority wich is just now shaking off the neoliberal domination and exploitation by the us government and its corporations, that lasted over 60 years .colombia is acting in the interests of its masters in us government...the colombian  gov claim thru DAS that it had caugth 2 venezuelan spies 2 weeks ago was discredited and exposed when DAS's own video showed two ordinary  venezuelans asked for documentation, then being immediatly released. Now its claiming an alledged helicopter violation...we know whos violating whos sovereignty..also see...comment-both groups mentioned are colombian rigthwing paramilitary...COLOMBIAN Paramilitaries displace population near Venezuela borderhttp://colombiareports.com/colombia-news/news/7821-paramilitaries-displace-population-near-venezuela-border.htmlThe U.S. and its unruly Latin American 'backyard' http://alainet.org/active/35774&lang=en
