La Zona de Reserva Campesina del Valle del Río Scimitar, an urgent need http://prensarural.org/spip/spip.php?article3555

For the defense of territory and human resources, from 9 to 22 January 2010 were performed in the Cimitarra River Valley Ecological Camp II, where social, workers, peasants and students were  involved in taking something from their experience in training each of the paths of the 7 routes from where the attendees were dispursed,

Against Plan Colombia and the spraying that affects the catch pan and the dignified life of the peasantry, against the multinationals and development policies that neglect the sector and against a state that supports and plays deaf at human rights violations in the area.Farmers organized an URGENT call for regulation of their Peasant Reserve Area.

The video includes comments, testimonials and several photographs of the area, in order to recognize through the alternative media, other sectors of the country that cries for a non-military presence in the state, calls for  education, health and decent living.

The urgency of regulating the Peasant Reserve Area is evident in the current landscape of the region, due to  environmental problems of pollution of water sources, deforestation, soil fumigation and damage, indiscriminate deforestation, overfishing, among others, are some the arguments of the Asociación Campesina del Valle del Río Scimitar (AVCV) and the rural community of the region to the Colombian state.

Urgent action is issuing a complaint over  the motion against  these peasant communities, asking for no more human rights violations, no more extrajudicial killings or crimes of state, and against the expropriation of  the peasants on bahalf of the multinationals, no more spraying to eliminate the production of  crops for bread production  and to stop jeopardizing  the health of residents.

The ACVC with CAHUCOPANA, ASCAMCAT, among other peasant organizations in Colombia claim and make themselves heard through legal action nationally and internationally, it is the duty of every Colombian recognize this situation and bring to an early peaceful solution to the social and armed conflict that our country is undergoing.

A third palm company, Urapalma, also accused of links with paramilitaries, nearly won approval for a grant before its application stalled because of missing paperwork. Critics say such grants defeat the antidrug mission of Plan Colombia. "Plan Colombia is fighting against drugs militarily at the same time it gives money to support palm, which is used by paramilitary mafias to launder money," says Colombian Senator Gustavo Petro, an outspoken critic of the palm industry. "The United States is implicitly subsidizing drug traffickers."

Spooks and Apartheid Maker Team Up in Haiti http://bsnorrell.blogspot.com/2010/01/spooks-and-apartheid-maker-team-up-in.html

CIA contractor Evergreen International Aviation, Inc., and the Israeli border spy contractor Elbit Systems, have teamed up to fly surveillance drones over Haiti orphanages in the remote mountains of Haiti. As Danske Bank divested in Elbit investments because of Elbit's ethics violations, Evergreen publicly announced it has teamed up with Elbit for air surveillance of Haiti orphanages.

Elbit, the Israeli defense contractor, built surveillance equipment on the Palestine border. Elbit was subcontracted by Boeing to construct spy technology on the Arizona border.Evergreen, with long standing ties to the CIA, is based in McMinnville, Oregon. In Haiti, Evergreen announced it has flown "missions to survey rural orphanages in Haiti employing Elbit Systems' Skylark® I LE Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. The team flew missions from the mountains of Haiti at 5,200 feet in the vicinity of Port-au-Prince."

"Evergreen Unmanned Systems was supported by Elbit Systems of Israel, using its Skylark® I LE System, to fly into these areas searching for signs of life. Evergreen Helicopters donated airlift support to position both teams into the region," Evergreen said in a statement, calling it a "pioneering effort" between Evergreen and Elbit. The use of drones in Haiti follows the protest in November at Fort Huachuca Army Intelligence Center in Arizona. Human rights activists demanded a halt to US torture and the use of drones, unmanned aircraft, by the US military for rogue assassinations which are also killing civilians in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

HILLARY CLINTON’S PRESCRIPTION – MAKE THE WORLD A NATO PROTECTORATE   http://fromthewilderness.wordpress.com/2010/02/01/hilliary-clintons-prescription-make-the-world-a-nato-protectorate/

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was busy in London and Paris last week advancing the new Euro-Atlantic agenda for the world. When a U.S. secretary of state speaks the world pays heed. Any nation that doesn’t will suffer the consequences of that inattention, that disrespect toward the imperatrix mundi.

The last generation’s foreign policy hubris and megalomania of the West, epitomized by its wars in Southeast Europe and South Asia and the Middle East, may be headed into far more dangerous territory.Grandiosity, arrogance and perceived impunity blind those afflicted with them, whether individuals or nations. No clearer example exists than Secretary Clinton’s remarks in Paris on January 29. To demonstrate the worldview of those she represents – that the United States and Europe are the incontestable metropolises and rulers by right of the planet – early in her address Clinton said “I appreciate the opportunity to discuss a matter of great consequence to the United States, France, and every country on this continent and far beyond the borders: the future of European security.” [8

Progressive London meeting and the "imperial temptation of the British" http://www.vheadline.com/readnews.asp?id=87975

Another interesting insight of Gott's address was the questioning of a common-held belief among the left in the UK that Tony Blair was George W. Bush's "poodle." No true, Gott suggests, and he maintains that Blair was using the US for his own ends ... namely to revive Britain's imperial ambitions, even though Whitehall cannot imagine a world in which Britain is not allied to the United States of America.

Mark Weisbrot of the Washington-based Center for Economic & Policy Research added a few interesting points when he talked about US imperialism as exercised in Haiti, such as when he questioned the validity of accusations from some Latin American leaders that the US has occupied Haiti. The intervention has been a mess, he stated, because the US got their priorities wrong, stressing the militarization of humanitarian aid above common sense and dealing with the urgent issues of medical and food distribution.

Weisbrot said the most likely scenario is that the US will let UN forces continue as the island's security force, adding a caveat: but who knows? The insight on an attempt to revive British imperialism could explain the presence of military units in Guyana near the Venezuelan border and special forces assistance in Colombia in alliance with the US war effort.Gott's insights will open an important debate, as he urged the UK left to campaign against the revival of British imperialism and the alliance with the USA.

Canadians are the Terror Threat http://www.mtl911truth.org/?p=2987

The threat of a ‘terror attack’, most likely a false flag, are very real and it looks to me like the media and governments are doing their best to portray protesters as terrorists. What would the globalists have to gain from staging a false flag in Canada? That is the question, because if the goal here is to make Canadians look like terrorists, that is very different from causing an incident and using as a pretense to go to war against a foreign country. What I am concerned about is that they may move to the next step and take their domestic war efforts to the next level.

Chavez Urges People to Avoid Provocations http://www.insidecostarica.com/dailynews/2010/february/01/latam-10020102.htm

I tell the people to not fall into provocations, said President Hugo Chavez, who thinks that an entrepreneurial communications group and its allies are seeking a pretext to promote destabilization.

"That is why I tell the Venezuelan people to not fall into provocations: do not play the game of an entrepreneurial communications group and its allies who are seeking a pretext to disrupt national peace," the president said in reference to recent demonstrations due to the closure of RCTV and five other TV channels that violated Venezuelan law.

Once again, the opposition is trying to trick certain groups into doing their work, "using them as cannon fodder in protests which it does not dare face," said Chavez, who noted that the Revolution cannot lose initiative and must keep the same fighting pace in all fields.Chavez called on the people to participate "in the battle, with the party, the students, the working class, the farmers' movements, women, the entire vanguard, to preserve peace and tranquility."

Nicaragua won't recognize Honduran government http://www.etaiwannews.com/etn/news_content.php?id=1169746&lang=eng_news

President Daniel Ortega says his government will not recognize the authority of newly inaugurated President Porfirio Lobo in Honduras, but Nicaragua will maintain economic and trade relations with the neighboring country.

Lobo has been scrambling since his inauguration last week to restore diplomatic relations with the international community. Honduras was cut off from foreign aid in June after then-President Manuel Zelaya was forced into exile, cutting short his term.Ortega said Saturday night that he had no reason to believe that those who forced Zelaya out of office were no longer in power."We feel threatened," said Ortega.

Technocracy and the New World Order: Part 1 http://www.jbs.org/jbs-news-feed/5906-technocracy-resurgent-for-the-new-world-order-prospects-for-carbon-currency

The idea of a global currency has been kicking around for several years now, most visibly in last year’s G20 meeting in Pittsburgh — a clear sign that the march toward world government, also known as the “new world order,” is very much on track. A new investigation suggests that the global currency won’t be just another euro — a globalized fiat money.

Instead, it will be based on carbon, and this will bring it into alignment with a variety of concerns, including fossil fuels depletion (also known as "peak oil") and anthropogenic climate change (ACC), as well as the belief among the new world orderlies that populations need to be monitored and controlled.

Chavez: We govern for all in peace and democracy http://www.abn.info.ve/go_news5.php?articulo=218154&lee=17

“We govern for all in peace and democracy. We think in everyone, because the distributed generation plants do not read 'for revolutionaries only.' No, the drinkable water pipelines are not for red ones only, no. That will also benefit rich people, middle class, people against us,” emphasized the President of Venezuela Hugo Chavez.

Chavez reiterated that every progress executed from the Government are thought taking into account the needs of the entire people without any kind of of distinction.Furthermore, Chavez stated that regarding the energy saving plan, to date more than 27 million light incandescent light bulbs have been replaced. The goal is to reach 100 million.

President Chavez stated that saving energy bulbs consume 20% less than traditional bulbs. “Energy-saving bulbs cannot be found in the local market, because capitalists want people to consume more and pay more. If people find energy-saving bulbs, store owners put hem at really high prices so consumers are forced to buy incandescent bulbs,” he added. In this regard, Chavez underscored that the Government is replacing the bulbs for free and from house to house nationwide.

War Spending Surges in Obama's Budget http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0110/32272.html?igoogle=1

President Barack Obama’s new budget, to be released Monday, forecasts two consecutive years of near $160 billion in war funding, far more than he hoped when elected and only modestly less than the last years of the Bush Administration.

In 2011 alone, the revised numbers are triple what the president included in his spending plan a year ago. And the strain shows itself in new deficit projections, already hobbled by lagging revenues due to the weak economy.

In a Sept. 17, 2009, letter on Federal Reserve System letterhead, Federal Reserve governor Kevin M. Warsh completely denied GATA’s appeal to show 137 withheld pages. referring to exemption 4.

This includes information relating to swap arrangements with foreign banks on behalf of the Federal Reserve System and is not the type of information that is customarily disclosed to the public. Taxing the Rich Passes in Oregon http://www.workerscompass.org

Thousands of Oregon workers fought valiantly over the past weeks to ensure that corporations and the rich will see their taxes raised, so that social services, health care, and education could be saved. Massive phone banking operations, door-to-door canvassing, and rallies were used by union and community members to educate the public about a progressive tax measure used to offset the state's dire budget situation.

The campaign was indisputably class war, and the corporations came out firing — virtually every newspaper in Oregon shed their alleged "objectivity" and exposed their subservience to the corporations. Oregon's largest newspaper, The Oregonian, displayed giant front page ads —daily — in order to defeat the measures (part of the ad showcased an article by Phil Knight —founder of Oregon company Nike — who spoke of corporate apocalypse if the tax measures passed). This, along with the countless false advertisements on TV and radio, shows the high level of understanding that workers in Oregon displayed in voting to pass the measures by a landslide.

Colombian Army admits  that bombing indigenous community that left wounded was wrong http://www.telesurtv.net/noticias/secciones/nota/66136-NN/ejercito-colombiano-admite-haber-herido-a-indigenas-en-bombardeo-erroneo/

The Colombian army has admitted injuring a couple of Indians during an erroneous bombing to neutralize the block Northwest of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), performed during the early hours of Sunday in the municipalities and Murundó Mutatá (northwest).

"Unfortunately in one of the missions several were wounded with shrapnel two indigenous from Embera Katio community," said the seventh division of the Colombian Army through a statement released this Sunday.

The indigenous authorities of the region pointed out, however, that the couple's son, only 20 months, also was seriously injured along with another person of the same community and were taken to St. Vincent de Paul Hospital in Medellin and a hospital Carepa municipality, Antioquia department.

In the statement, the military said "We deployed all available resources to evacuate these people to medical centers of the highest quality.  William Carupia of the Indigenous Organization of Antioquia, condemned the attack victims were Aboriginal and said the bombing also were victims of strafing(To attack with a machine gun or cannon from a low- flying aircraft) from helicopters in the early afternoon on Sunday.

"These past 20 months we have had militarized forces around here and we are wondering  why this attack  happened  in this indigenous community, why a  bombing if there has been a presence of the security forces have been constantly here," he asked Carupia indigenous organizations denounced  the Army  for  its  indiscriminate bombing of communities.

"We want human rights humanitarian agencies, national indigenous organizations (...) verify this situation," said indigenous leader and also denied that theres any  illegal armed groups operating in the  area because it is heavily militarized. "We have not had any communication with the Army to respond to us and tell us why this happened, and we demand they justify themselves saying there was an armed group (...) because there is not," he added.

Military officials have said that these operations deployed in the region seek to attack the FARC members who, the army said killed several community leaders from the area last December.

Heated protests take place over BT brinjal in India http://www.thehindu.com/2010/02/01/stories/2010020161451100.htm

Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh faced angry protests at the consultations on Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) brinjal at the Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture here on Sunday. The demonstration by activists of farmers’ and non-governmental organisations, opposing introduction of genetically modified crops began with the Minister’s entry at the institute.

The protesters, led by Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham president K. Ramakrishna, blocked his entry to the auditorium.Others, including activists of the Swadeshi Jagaran Manch, raised slogans such as ‘Bt brinjal go back’ and ‘Monsanto agents go back.’ The exercise did not commence for one hour. Mr. Ramesh lost his cool several times and prompted the police to “push out” the protesters after they did not heed his requests to stop shouting.

He asked the protesters not to “bring disrepute to Hyderabad,” as nowhere else were such uncalled-for interruptions marred the public consultations.Mr. Ramesh described as unfortunate the polarisation of the debate from the beginning. It was not correct to dub those supporting Bt brinjal as ‘agents of Monsanto’ and the opponents as ‘anti-technology.’

Ecuador President Correa Blasts Aid Imperialism on Haiti Trip http://hcvanalysis.wordpress.com/2010/01/31/ecuador-president-correa-blasts-aid-imperialism-on-haiti-trip/

Ecuadoran President Rafael Correa criticized “imperialism” in aid efforts in Haiti during a visit to the stricken nation Friday, echoing criticism leveled by other leftist Latin American leaders. “There is a lot of imperialism among the donors. They donate first, but most of it goes back to them,” he said at a joint press conference with Haiti’s President Rene Preval.

Without naming specific programs, he criticized both military relief efforts and those of foreign non-governmental organizations.Correa is the second foreign leader to visit Haiti since a devastating quake struck the country January 12, killing at least 170,000 people and prompting a massive international relief effort to help the survivors.

Correa visited Haiti as a representative for the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), a regional bloc he currently heads. Before taking a helicopter flight over the Haitian capital to assess the damage, Correa said he was delivering medical aid and had brought 12 Ecuadoran doctors with him.

UNASUR is “going to be present” to help Haiti rebuild, he pledged. “We want the little or the lot with which we can help from UNASUR to get to the Haitian people,” he said.Correa’s criticism of the aid response to the devastating 7.0-quake echoes charges made by Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez and Bolivian President Evo Morales.

Both leftist leaders have reserved particularly harsh criticism for the US effort in Haiti, which has included the deployment of some 20,000 military personnel in and around Haiti and the earmarking of millions of dollars in aid.“We have a great debt to Haiti,” Correa said, referring to Haiti’s support for Latin American liberator Simon Bolivar.
