In all the years that Chavez has been in power, I have never seen indiscriminate mass arrests in Venezuela, even during those times when hundreds of thousands of violent anti-Chavez protesters marched the streets of Caracas for weeks on end. I was there. Hundreds of heavily armed anti-Chavez protesters took over Plaza Altamira (I was also there) in Eastern Caracas in 2002 and 2003 during a period of several months …

and they were not scooped up like cattle and mass-arrested as in Toronto this month.

If the Canadian government's Peter Kent, formerly a well-known Canadian journalist(!), had done his research carefully (without relying solely on US-government or anti-Chavez propaganda), he would probably have come to the following conclusion:"After visiting Venezuela, and after researching the matter carefully, and after comparing Canada with Venezuela, I have to come to the conclusion that we should be seriously concerned about Canada's shrinking democratic space."
