The president of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, informed this Wednesday that State international reserves amount 29.9 billion dollars of which 18.35 billion are gold, according to estimations until August 8 this year.“It could be much more if we add the resources in the Fonden and the Heavy Fund, which are international assets we own in foreign currency: dollars and euros,” Chavez detailed, who reiterated Government decision to nationalize gold mining and related activities.

Chavez pointed out that soon gold reserves will increase, because “we will continue with the extraction of gold in Guayana (Venezuela"s southeast) and and transform it into monetary gold and deposit it in our vaults.”“We will start to bring our gold to the Central Bank,” Chavez stressed, after naming a list of banks in the United States and Europe where Venezuelan reserves have remained deposited since the eighties.Venezuela owns $18.35 billion in gold reserves
