Colombian government wants to turn Latin America into a new Middle East http://www.telesurtv.net/noticias/entrev-reportajes/index.php?ckl=499

There was a further discussion of the candidates for president of Colombia, its neighbors, and one of the questions that was made to them was would they back another attack on Ecuador like the events that occurred on March 1, 2008. Two of those candidates said yes. Some of them do not. What would be your response to that position of the extraterritoriality of the Colombian conflict?  It will be a deep pain for those who play emperadorcitos (lil' emperors)and want to turn Latin America into a new Middle East, but in any case, next time they will find a much better prepared Ecuador, we shall respond.

Would you expect an attack from Colombia, when he said that Ecuador would be better prepared, what you mean exactly?  Well, when we were attacked at close range on March 1, 2008 our radar did not work, our aviation was virtually nonexistent, we had no communications. All that we  improved and  I repeat,we  never attack, but will defend the homeland with dignity. In any case, I remind him Venezuela and the world all the words of apology, and forgiveness by President Alvaro Uribe, and now his  successors  say these terrible things,  one does not know what to think. These kinds of people in government and seven military bases in Colombia, imagine the danger to the region. All that is against  international law, including American law.

"Ecuador would repel this attack?  Next time? Of course. If we are attacked, if we are bombed, we would have to respond. We are a country of peace, but we're not no fools and have our dignity.

Steps have been taken, publicly, in a restoration of relations with Colombia. However, what you have asked of the Colombian Government has not been given. What is the limit here, ie, the information alleged in the alleged computer of Raul Reyes?  I think this is a whole charade ,evidence that was put together in this regard. First they bombed us, we react with full force, they invented this travesty of computers, the links with the FARC. Well help us give to the world all of this information.  We have requested copies of the hard cases of supercomputers that survived the attack of Angostura, which if they existed, were stolen from Ecuadorian territory, in the  offensive, But they do not giveus these, this is one of the requirements that we have to restore full diplomatic relations. We all want to know the truth, give us complete copies of these hard drives for the world to know who are the members of the FARC.

Why dont they  give them, why do you think?  Why do you imagine? It might not exist, they might have information that commit themselves Why? he that doesnt owe shouldnt  fears nothing ...Why not give us the records, if thats what they based  that mounted  smear campaign against Ecuador?

will relationship with Colombia  remain on these  terms so far, President, until that is resolved?  Look, we,and  our requirements do not depend on people ,they depend on principles. We have requested information on the most severe bombardment in the the most recent Latin American history, unprecedented, with smart bombs, without a declaration of war, with absolutely nothing. At the time, I would say we used the best bilateral relations with that  government which we considered a friend, we then  inquired into the details of that terrible bombing.

For example, there are reports that Colombian aircraft can not launch these smart bombs  of U.S. origin. We want to know what was in the famous computers that miraculously survived the attack, we want information, to know the truth and let the world know it. That is independent of who is ruling Colombia, we responded  early and while it does not give us this information  we can not fully restore diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Does Ecuador have a cordial relationship with the U.S.?

I think we had a cordial relationship, but we do what any sovereign nation would do and what the United States itself would do. For example, the Manta air base, I said clearly: "I'll  extend the contract for the U.S. military base in Manta, if I may give them an Ecuadorian base in Miami." they never responded and we terminated the U.S. base at Manta. We are doing what any sovereign countrywould do , starting with what the United States would. So I do not see why  this should  hamper the relations between the two countries.

You, in the same vein, asked that your Government include  the United States, whenever the United States included Ecuador as a country that violates human rights How does this report go?  Yes ,its annoying that in the XXI century they  are still calling themselves the arbiters of right and wrong, countries and governments which declare themselves above and morally superior to the rest. The State Department human rights reports is probably inertia of republican governments, something that probably neither the president nor Mrs. Clinton  control, which pointed out that Ecuador is not respective on human rights.

As far as I know, in Ecuador we do not allow torture, in the United States yes. As far as I know, Ecuador does not permitt the death penalty in the United States yes. As far as I know, Ecuador has not bombed any country, the United States has, Iraq, et cetera. So now we are also preparing a report on the human rights situation in the U.S.. With the same solvency, and capacity they have, as a sovereign country we can also do a report on human rights in the United States.

It is contradictory to have that good relations with the United States and good relations with Venezuela, if Venezuela is a country that denounces imperialism?

Ecuador also denounces imperialism, when you know that the United States, or any other country, is intervening in the internal politics of Ecuador or sponsoring a coup, I assure you that we will respond in a sovereign and dignified manner, as does Venezuela. We do not fight countries or races, or peoples. We combat actions, attitudes, policies against us and denounce these with all our energy, as does Venezuela.

"Relations between Venezuela and Ecuador, to this day, how would you rate it?  I do not think we could be better,we are extremely fraternal. The most important are these principles, we share in  that view, finding that Patria Grande dreamed Bolivar himself, who also had, in his ideals, intellectuals such as José Martí, of Eloy Alfaro in Ecuador, and so on. But, as timely, in particular, there is great progress, we have lots of energy cooperation, oil, etc.,  I think that relations couldnt be better.
