an anonymous Arab diplomat has reportedly confirmed Saudi Arabia’s involvement in paying salaries for Free Syrian Army soldiers, but added the Saudis with the help of Qatar have already been doing it for months. A spokesman for Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry, however, said he was “unaware” that the kingdom was paying any salaries.

US/Israeli Handyman Turkey Provoke Syria: Byzantine at Heart? An Illusion for the 21st Century Ottoman Empire?
Turkey spearheading NATO attacks on Syria in an attempt to provoke the last to react and then justify a subsequent brutal reaction by NATO is a credible scenario.
Yet, this is unlikely to be Gul’s goal. Turkey is not interested in an occupied Syria being controlled from Brussels. Why should Turkey share its colonial cake?“Elementary, Dr. Watson!”The trajectory of the abovementioned fighter is of enormous interest, since it pinpointed Turkey’s main interest. It flew just south of Hatay. In 1938, Hatay—a small territory on the Mediterranean coast—became independent from the French mandate of Syria as the Republic of Hatay.Following a referendum in 1939, Hatay decided to join Turkey, forming the singular panhandle shape that can be seen on the maps of Turkey. Syria still doesn’t recognize that event as legitimate. In the last year, this area had regained strategic importance after the break-up of the Turkish-Israeli alliance due to the Freedom Flotilla Affair. This break-up is shaping the exploitation of the newly discovered gas reservoirs in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. In Greece’s Fadeaway: Iran and Israel Battle over Cyprus, I analyzed the new regional alliances fighting over the large reservoirs of gas (and more, see Gas, Oil … Uranium) in the eastern side of the Mediterranean Sea.
In November 2011, Cyprus announced it would explore its undersea natural gas wells in cooperation with Israel; this was the trigger for Netanyahu’s visit to the island in February 2012. The agreements announced between the countries—including military ones—indicate that Israel has shifted its main ally in the area from Turkey to Cyprus.Turkey has announced that it would not allow underwater drills in Cypriot waters, clearly citing military preventative actions. The Turkish intervention is the result of Cyprus being divided between the Republic of Cyprus in the south and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Thus, two clear bands had been created around the gas field issue: Turkey-Lebanon-Northern Cyprus-Iran, and Israel-Cyprus.
Later on, in April, Greece joined the Israeli led alliance; this is important since Greece is a major worldwide player in oil transport. The USA—technically Turkey’s ally in NATO—has conducted the “Noble Dina” military drill with Israel and Greece in the gas fields area.Led by the U.S. Sixth Fleet, Noble Dina involves simulations of combat against submarines, air battles and protection of offshore natural gas platforms.
What will NATO do if a war erupts between these two alliances? Both alliances have announced that the gas fields are casus belli. In June 2012, Israel announced the beginning of a feasibility study regarding artificial islands that would facilitate its control over the fields.Considering this, the Turkish provocation acquires an additional dimension that clearly transcend NATO.Lebanon and Northern Cyprus are Turkey’s actual access points to the gas fields. Turkey would like to expand its access to the Mediterranean Sea, as well as to facilitate its communications and transport with Lebanon, which in the next years may become a regional power replacing the troubled Syria. The provocation of the fighter remains a provocation under this scenario, but its goals slightly shifts. Slicing Syria in order to annex the Latakia Governorate to Turkey—as it was done with Hatay in the past—will open a land corridor between Turkey and Lebanon as well as increase Turkey’s access to the gas fields. Byzantine at heart, the Rising Ottoman is planning to renew its historical empire.

Zionist Slaughterer Israeli security official said deepening crisis in Syria serves the strategic interests of the Zionist regime.Former head of Israel’s national security council Giora Eiland reiterated that the status quo in Syria is good for the Zionist regime, and urged Tel Aviv officials to do their best to widen the gaps and increase the unrests in the Muslim neighboring country. He voiced pleasure in the destruction of Syria’s economic infrastructures by terrorist and armed rebel groups, and reiterated, “To remain safe from the danger of Bashar al-Assad’s government, Syria had better be engaged in domestic differences and crises so that Israel could pursue its goals.”Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country.Hundreds of people, including members of the security forces, have been killed by the terrorists who are supported and financed by Great Satan U.S, Zionist Israel, Turkey regime and other Zionist Puppet Arab regimes. The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.

Israel has committed genocide, ethnic cleansing, war crimes and crimes against humanity against Palestinians for decades. The zionist “state” of Israel was established on the ruins of Palestinian cities and towns after perpetrating war crimes against the Palestinian people and forcing the rest to flee their homeland.

Mrs. Al-Wazir is also the daughter of the current Palestinian representative to Austria and the UN in Vienna, Dr. Zuheir Al-Wazir, and a cousin of Mr. Jihad Al-Wazir, himself a son of Abu Jihad and current head of the “Palestinian Money Authority”, a sort of Palestinian central bank.
Mrs. Al-Wazir, who hails from such an illustrious family, has never found it appropriate to report about the israeli zionist rampage  of genocidal crimes against Palestinians. Instead, she has chosen to report about the past of the Armenians in Turkey in the service of American and French propaganda, which has been using the Armenian issue, which is very sensitive to the Turkish government, as a stick to beat the Turkish government in punishment for its positions towards the jewish “state” and because of its rejection of the atrocious blockade imposed by israel on the million and a half Palestinians in the Gaza concentration camp for several years now.

Why Jason Kenney Getting an Award for 'Diversity' Only Reinforces Discrimination

Conservative minister Jason Kenney is to receive an award for "diversity" from the Jewish National Fund (JNF) in London, Ontario this Sunday. It is hard to say which does more harm to the true values of diversity: the "honouring" organization or the politician being "honoured."The JNF covenant reserves the 13 per cent of Israeli land it owns for the exclusive benefit of Jews. It plays the same discriminatory role in the Israeli Lands Authority: together, these two interlocking institutions control 93 per cent of land in Israel, which (with a few short-lease exceptions) is not available to Palestinians. Many of these lands, originally belonging to Palestinians expelled in 1948, were expropriated and then sold to the JNF.In 1998, the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights reported that the "large-scale and systematic confiscation of Palestinian land and property by the State and the transfer of that property to these agencies constitute an institutionalized form of discrimination because these agencies by definition would deny the use of these properties by non-Jews."Segregation and exclusion are incompatible with diversity, but fine with Minister Kenney. Since the robo-call election of 2011, Ottawa Conservatives have pushed through measures that discriminate against migrants and refugees. Last November they completely halted applications for immigration sponsorships of parents and grandparents until 2014.The JNF creates forests and parks on the ruins of destroyed Palestinian villages to hide the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians and to prevent Palestinian refugees from returning. Canada Park, built on top of the ruins of the Palestinian villages of Imwas, Yalu and Beit Nuba (deliberately destroyed by Israel in 1967), was funded through Canadian tax-deductible donations to the JNF Canada. The destruction of the Palestinian villages and the denial of the villagers' right to return to their homes are grave violations of the 4th Geneva Convention. Former Israeli Knesset member Uri Avnery calls this destruction a "war crime under international law."War crimes (even those subsidized through our tax system) do not promote diversity but they are OK with Kenney and other Conservatives, whose unconditional support for Israeli crimes matches their complete disdain for our own national obligations under international humanitarian law. Just last week, they passed Bill C-31, a law that will result in the arbitrary detention, intimidation and re-victimization of highly vulnerable asylum-seekers in Canada, especially women and children. As of next week, refugees in this country will be denied vital medical services by the same Conservative government.Like Indigenous peoples elsewhere, Palestinian Bedouins in the Negev have been and continue to be dispossessed of their land, their resources and their livelihoods by occupying populations. While countries like Canada move slowly towards reconciliation with aboriginal peoples through land settlements and compensation, funds raised through JNF dinners and Canadian tax deductions contribute to further dispossession of Bedouins and other Palestinians.Indigenous dispossession does not help foster diversity, but that doesn't bother Conservatives like Kenney. In April 2012, they pushed through a policy allowing employers [to] pay "temporary" foreign workers up to 15 per cent less than the prevailing local wage. The JNF's exclusionary practices and policies in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories are not well known in North America, but recently in the U.K. major political party leaders (including the current Prime Minister) have begun distancing themselves from this discriminatory organization. It is time more Canadians demanded the JNF's charitable status be revoked - in the name of diversity (and international law), while we work to reverse the damage done to vulnerable migrants by Kenney and other Conservatives. We may not get any awards for "diversity," but we will be helping build a more just world for all

Representatives of various social organisations of workers, campesinos, miners, factory workers, parents, parliamentarians and other sectors from all across the country rejected on Sunday the attempt to carry out a coup, denouncing in the last few hours as being promoted by political groups that have infiltrated the mutiny of low-ranking police officers and announced that they will defend democracy and the process of change led by President Evo Morales.Different social organisations surprisingly showed up at the installations of Radio Patria Nueva and Bolivia TV in La Paz, concerned by the attempts to break the constitutional order.“After having called a meeting we have declared ourselves in a state of emergency and are announcing a permanent mobilization starting tomorrow (Monday) in defence of the process of change” announced the executive secretary of the United Union Confederation of Campesino Workers of Bolivia (CSUTCB), Roberto Coraite. He said that faced with the current situation, they will not remain “with their arms crossed” and announced a permanent vigil to defend democracy and guarantee the continuity of the constitutional government of President Evo Morales.“Therefore, the conditions are there to support this process in a unanimous and firm manner, we are prepared to take up certain defense strategies against this attempted coup” he argued. For his part, the executive secretary of the Union Federation of Mine Workers of Bolivia (FSTMB), Roberto Perez, said “we will not allow atrocities to be perpetrated by a small group of oligarchs in this country.”The executive secretary of the organisation Juana Azurduy de Padilla, Maxima Apaza, said that the police officer’s demands were just, as the president himself noted in ordering that these demands be attended to, but said her organisation does not accept the form in which they have are making their demands. In this context, she affirmed that as social organisations, they are “obliged” to defend the process of change and will not allow the same thing to happen as what is occurring in Paraguay, where radical groups removed President Fernando Lugo in a political trial deemed as a congressional coup. The executive secretary of the Federation of Women of El Alto, Mercedes Marquez, also assured that this sector “will not allow anyone to undermine the president” and democracy. The executive secretary of the Federation of Neighbourhood Councils of La Paz, Jaime Vera, also presented himself at the studios of Radio Patria Nueva, to announce that this entity has declared itself in a state of emergency in the face of attempts to destabilise the government and denounced the presence of infiltrators in the police protest “organised by Juan del Granado, head of the Movement of Those Without Fear, by Samuel Doria Medina, head of National Unity, and Guadalupe Cardenas, the supposed representative of the police officer’s wives.”“I am sure that they want to fuse this mobilization with the arrival of the TIPNIS (Isiboro-Secure Indigenous Territory and National Park) march, which is on route to the government headquarters in defense of their territory and against the consultation process” he added.
Panfilo Guzman, from the United Federation of Campesinos from Tarija, added that this government was the only one to attend to the problems of the poor, which is why this federation will defend the process of change from their communities and across the country.
The vice-president of the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS), Concepcion Ortiz announced a mobilization for next Monday in defense of the process of change, together with organisations that will arrive from outside the country.“We are grateful for the support of other countries that are arriving for this mobilization in rejection of the attempted coup, reject the attitude of the police officer and denounce that the right is intervening in this conflict” she said.
Representatives from neighbourhood councils, parents associations and other women’s and worker’s organisations made similar announcements.

Sections of the police rejected the 8 point agreement signed by their representatives with the government and decided to remain in mutiny in a protest that was denounced by the government has creating the scene for a coup.
White House unveils strategy for Africa: intensified militarization and war on terror
The White House has put in writing its policies for sub-Saharan Africa. The problem is, there’s hardly a word of truth in the document, and not a single mention of AFRICOM, the U.S. military command on the continent. The presidential paper repeats Obama’s 2009 lecture to Africans on “good governance.” He also warned that they avoid the “excuses” of blaming “neocolonialism” and “racism” for their problems. Meanwhile, AFRICOM is “positioning the U.S. to launch coups at will against African civilian, or even military, leaders that fall out of favor with Washington.”

Obama, that imperialist son-of-a…um, Kenyan, last week unveiled what he described as a “new” U.S. Strategy Toward Sub-Saharan Africa. The White House report does not once mention AFRICOM, the U.S. military command that has pushed aside the State Department as the primary institution of U.S. policy and power in sub-Saharan Africa. The report [see attached document] comes three years after Obama’s trip to Ghana, when he declared that Africa’s biggest problems were “corruption and poor governance,” rather than five centuries (and still counting) of Euro-American predation. African complaints about “neo-colonialism, or [that] the West has been oppressive, or racism” are mere “excuses,” said Obama, in a performance that scholar Ama Biney described as “imperialist lecturing” and “Obama-speak.”
Having effectively abandoned even the pretense of competing with China, India, Brazil and other rising economic powers in Africa, the Obama regime has turned the continent into a battleground, where AFRICOM is the principle interlocutor with the region’s governments and peoples. In addition to conducting year-round military maneuvers with nearly every nation on the continent, AFRICOM handles much of U.S. food distribution and medical aid to the region, while the CIA monitors Africa’s vast expanses with a network of secret airstrips and surveillance aircraft.

The White House report, a document of pure obfuscation, puts U.S. efforts to “strengthen democratic institutions” at the top of the list. It rehashes Obama’s Ghana declaration, that “Africa does not need strong men, it needs strong institutions.” Yet, Washington’s closest allies in sub-Saharan Africa are Paul Kagame, the minority Tutsi warlord in Rwanda; Yoweri Museveni, who rose to power with a guerilla army of child-soldiers and locked up two million Acholi people in concentration camps; and Ethiopian strongman Meles Zenawi, a military dictator who heads an ethnic-based regime. Rwanda and Uganda are the principal culprits in the deaths of six million Congolese since 1996, the worst genocide since World War Two, while Zenawi’s 2006 invasion of Somalia, instigated by the United States, led to “the worst humanitarian crisis in Africa – worse than Darfur,” according to United Nations observers.

The text of the president’s statement on the “new” sub-Saharan strategy warns that “the United States will not stand idly by when actors threaten legitimately elected governments or manipulate the fairness and integrity of democratic processes, and we will stand in steady partnership with those who are committed to the principles of equality, justice, and the rule of law.” In the context of Obama’s humanitarian military intervention doctrine – and especially since AFRICOM led NATO’s regime change in Libya – this is war talk.

In another sense, however, it is, quite simply, pure crap. Rwanda has for 16 years destabilized and spread genocidal chaos in neighboring Congo, in blatant violation of a U.S. law specifically tailored to curtail and punish those activities. The Democratic Republic of The Congo Relief, Security and Democracy Promotion Act, written by then-Sen. Barack Obama and co-sponsored by his colleague Hillary Clinton, now Secretary of State, authorizes the Secretary of State to withhold U.S. aid “if the Secretary determines that the government of the foreign country is taking actions to destabilize the Democratic Republic of the Congo." The Obama administration, like its predecessors, not only disregards its own policy statements – it ignores laws passed by the president and the chief foreign policy officer.

The White House claims the U.S. has made Africa a safer and more just place “by strengthening institutions and challenging leaders whose actions threaten peaceful political transitions, including in Cote d’Ivoire” – where the U.S. and French accomplished armed regime change.

Obama brags that: “We have been the world’s leader in responding to humanitarian crises, including in the Horn of Africa, while at the same time working with our African partners to promote resilience and prevent future crises.” In reality, George Bush and Ethiopia’s Meles Zenawi ended Somalia’s brief period of peace under an Islamic Courts regime, plunged the country into “the worst humanitarian crisis in Africa,” and then, under Obama, withheld food from Somalia in order to weaken the Shabaab resistance, all of which set the stage for an even worse famine in 2011, killing hundreds of thousands. Such realities give the lie to Obama’s promise to “work to prevent the weakening or collapse of local economies, protect livestock, promote sustainable access to clean water, and invest in programs that reduce community-level vulnerability to man-made and natural disasters.” AFRICOM and U.S. policy are the disasters afflicting the continent; they are part of the disease, not the cure.During the winter following his Africa visit in 2009, Obama took the lead in destroying all prospects for slowing global warming, at the Copenhagen climate talks. But he still wants to peddle American “green” products (and natural gas fracking) to a scorched Africa. “We will continue promoting resilience and adaptation to impacts of climate change on food, water, and health in vulnerable African countries, supporting the adoption of low-emissions development strategies, and mobilizing financing to support the development and deployment of clean energy,” said the White House report. South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu had his own interpretation of U.S. climate policy. Africa, he said, “is to be condemned to incineration and no modern development.”Major General W.M. Kisamba, Land Forces Commander, Tanzania People’s Defense Forces; and General Carter F. Ham, Commander, U.S. Africa Command, in Dar es Salaam on May 13, 2011.

Obama assures Africa that: “The United States will seek to expand adherence to the principle of civilian control of the military.” In practice, AFRICOM has cultivated a “soldier-to-soldier” policy between U.S. troops and African militaries that extends from “general-to-general” to “colonel-to-colonel” and down the ranks, positioning the U.S. to launch coups at will against African civilian, or even military, leaders that fall out of favor with Washington. As Dan Glazebrook recently wrote in The Guardian, America’s “great hope is that the African Union’s forces can be subordinated to a chain of command headed by AFRICOM.”As with George Bush, the death of millions and the erasure of nations can all be justified by the invocation of one word: al-Qa’ida.“In our approach to counterterrorism,” said the White House, “we will continue to be guided by the President’s affirmation in the National Security Strategy that he bears no greater responsibility than ensuring the safety and security of the American people.
“Consistent with the National Strategy for Counterterrorism, we will concentrate our efforts on disrupting, dismantling, and eventually defeating al-Qa’ida and its affiliates and adherents in Africa to ensure the security of our citizens and our partners. In doing so, we will seek to strengthen the capacity of civilian bodies to provide security for their citizens and counter violent extremism through more effective governance, development, and law enforcement efforts.”And there you have it. Ultimately, “good governance” and the rest of Obama’s wish-list for Africa is whatever suits U.S. war on terror priorities – and keeps out the Chinese. Which only confirms that Barack Obama is, indeed, an imperialist son-of-a…um, Kenyan.

World Refugee Week is observed on 18-24 June in 2012.
