The Colombian Inspector General's office called for former Senator Jorge Castro Pacheco to be convicted for his alleged ties to former paramilitary leader Rodrigo Tovar Pupo, alias "Jorge 40," according to Caracol Radio.The former senator, who is the brother of ex-paramiltary leader, Cesar Augusto Castro Pacheco, alias "El Tuto," is on trial for allegedly having signed two pacts with paramilitary groups, including the violent "cleansing" scheme allegedly concocted by Drummond Coal Mines and the AUC.

The senator who took Pacheco's Congressional seat, Vincente Blel, was sentenced to seven years in prison for corruption in January.Pacheco's predecessor, Senator Dieb Maloof, was dismissed for his ties to paramilitaries.Former senator Alvaro Araujo Castro was sentenced in March to nine years and three months in prison for his ties to paramiltaries.
