Venezuelan Ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS), Roy Chaderton Matos condemns the tour of US sub-secretary of state for Latin America, Arturo Valenzuela to the continent as geared towards threatening left-wing governments that have proved uncomfortable for the USA.During a visit to Colombia, Valenzuela criticized defense agreements signed by Hugo Chavez and Russian Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin, alleging that Venezuela was engaged in an arms race.
Chaderton Matos told Telesur that such murmurings show the "double, triple, cuadruple US morality," which changes according to the circumstances. He reminds people that the USA has unleashed a great number of military bases and locations in countries such as Puerto Rico, Colombia and Peru in detriment to those countries' sovereignty. The presence of the Fourth Fleet in the Caribbean is another sign of that threat to countries with a left-wing tendencies.
Chaderton Matos stated that the USA had slapped an economic embargo on Venezuela blackballing military trade agreements, such as supplying spare parts for Venezuela's F-16s and Hercules planes. Why, he gibes, should they complain when Venezuela buys Russian planes.Chaderton Matos ended the interview, citing Putin when he visited Venezuela for the first time, stating that markets close and markets open,
Venezuela and Russia see each other as strategic allies in defense matters, Chaderton Matos insisted.Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates will shortly visit Barbados and Peru to follow through plans to set up a stronger US military presence in the two countries under the pretext of counter-narcotics control. Gates has just signed an agreement with Brazil to increase military contacts and sales of equipment. The Brazilians deny any agreement to allow the US military set up bases.
