As protests continue to spread throughout the eastern half of the island of New Guinea, where indigenous land rights have been suspended, an unprecedented mass mobilization has begun in the west, in the Indonesian-occupied state of West Papua.

The naked truth is that West Papua is a colony.
The Netherlands had no legal right to sign the US deal trading the people of West Papua without their consent. It is under Indonesian colonial administration because of the New York Agreement which the US "pressed the Netherlands to sign". The truth was finally revealed by the US Department of State summary which was declassified and published in 1995.
But it is easier for the US State Department to let people in West Papua continue to die under Indonesian rule, rather than admitting the New York Agreement was not legal.
