Venezuela's state-owned water company Hidroven expects to complete its 860 million bolivar (US$201 million) Clavellinos potable water system in December of 2012, a Hidroven official told BNamericas. The project involves building a submarine pipeline over 24km in length to increase water supply to the country's Margarita Island. The new pipeline will have a 1.4m diameter, replacing an existing structure that is 0.9m in diameter and will continue to be used for irrigation, the official said, adding that all pipelines were purchased from Iran. The plan also includes building a reservoir and repairing the Clavellinos and El Cordon potable water treatment plants.Once completed, the Clavellinos system will provide potable water to 300,000 inhabitants in Nueva Esparta state and 150,000 inhabitants in Sucre state. The project is being financed by state-owned development bank Bandes.
