Summing up 10 years of the revolution, Executive Vice President and Agriculture & Lands (MAT) Minister, Elias Jaua said 40% of landed estates or "latifundios" have been recovered for the State and there has been a 21% increase in national food production.
Jaua reported that Venezuela has succeeded in reaching full sovereignty in products such as white maize, coffee and rice and by 2012 the country hopes to be self-supplying in black beans.
Throughout last year the government has been concentrating on recovering idle or underused farms that have 1,2 and 3 type quality soil, such as exist in the Tucutunemo valleys in Aragua where he said black beans yields have high producing 2.500 kilos a hectare.
