"The West always seeks to engage the world public opinion (with minor issues) in order that they neglect important issues," Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Undersecretary Ali Baqeri said on the sidelines of a gathering in the Northeastern city of Mashhad in Khorassan Razavi province on Tuesday. "The enemy has magnified Iran's peaceful nuclear activities so as to cover up the deployment of 240 US nuclear warheads in the European territories," he pointed out. 

Baqeri underlined the illegal measures taken by the US and other western countries against the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and said the disaster in which the 200-pound load of highly-enriched uranium was lost in the US 40 years ago is still being remembered by the world public opinion. He made the remarks referring to the Apollo Affair in 1965 which was an incident in which a US company, Nuclear Materials and Equipment Corporation (NUMEC), in Apollo, Pennsylvania was investigated for losing 200-600 pounds of highly enriched uranium. NUMEC's startup capital was provided by David Lowenthal, who was closely associated with Israeli intelligence and David Ben-Gurion.
