The French Journalist Louis Denghien said the EU Foreign Ministers’ statements in Brussels meeting reflected the arrogance and irresponsibility of the European diplomats. In his article on the French news site Le Poste on Thursday, he mocked at the British Foreign Minister’s call on President Bashar al-Assad for implementing reforms, wondering if Mr. Hague is unaware of that President al-Assad has committed to the reforms announced regarding the Syrian Constitution, judiciary, the political parties and enhancing decentralization.
Denghien addressed the Swedish Foreign Minister, Carl Bildt, whose position was a real shock in hoping to impose more European sanctions on Damascus as the Syrian leadership has reached a dead end and lost legitimacy and asked him about millions of the Syrian citizens who took to the streets to express support to their President. He ironically criticized Mr. Blidt’s admiration of the Syrian opposition’s unity and non-violence, inquiring why did Mr’ Bildt turn a deaf ear to the killing of tens of policemen at the hands of Salafi groups members in Jisr al-Shughour and to the city residents’ testimonies on the violence of the armed groups who are externally supported.
“Did Mr. Blidt know that while they were in Brussels meeting, violent clashes took place in Homs and bloody crimes committed by extremist groups before the Syrian army interfered to put an end?,” Denghien added.Denghien talked about the division in Syrian opposition between the outside and the inside, wondering if there anyone who really thinks that the Islamists and liberal secularists will co-exist in peace and harmony. He concluded that ” in this stage of the volitional blindness of the European leaders and the White House, we can say that their trifle official statements will end in dustbin of diplomatic history as those statements on the inevitable victory of democracy in Afghanistan and on the imminent collapse of Iran
