PENTAGON DISASTER RELIEF EXERCISE FOR HAITI WENT LIVE AFTER EARTHQUAKE HIThttp://cryptogon.com/?p=13147
As personnel representing hundreds of government and nongovernment agencies from around the world rush to the aid of earthquake-devastated Haiti, the Defense Information Systems Agency has launched a Web portal with multiple social networking tools to aid in coordinating their efforts. On Monday, Jean Demay, DISA’s technical manager for the agency’s Transnational Information Sharing Cooperation project, happened to be at the headquarters of the U.S. Southern Command in Miami preparing for a test of the system in a scenario that involved providing relief to Haiti in the wake of a hurricane. After the earthquake hit on Tuesday, Demay said SOUTHCOM decided to go live with the system. On Wednesday, DISA opened up its All Partners Access Network, supported by the Transnational Information Sharing Cooperation project, to any organization supporting Haiti relief efforts.

Raymond Joseph, Haiti’s ambassador in Washington. “Listen, don’t rush on boats to leave the country,” Mr. Joseph says in Creole, according to a transcript released by the Pentagon. “If you do that, we’ll all have even worse problems. Because, I’ll be honest with you: If you think you will reach the U.S. and all the doors will be wide open to you, that’s not at all the case. And they will intercept you right on the water and send you back home where you came from.”

Israel stops granting permits to NGO aid workers in W. Bankhttp://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1143854.html
The Interior Ministry has stopped granting work permits to foreign nationals working in most international nongovernmental organizations operating in the Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem. An an apparent overhaul of regulations that have been in place since 1967, the ministry is now granting the NGO employees tourist visas only, which bar them from working.Organizations affected by the apparent policy change include Oxfam, Save the Children, Doctors Without Borders, Terre des Hommes, Handicap International and the Religious Society of Friends.
US Mercenaries Set Sights on Haitihttp://www.thenation.com/doc/20100201/scahill
Private security companies are seeing big dollar signs in Haiti thanks in no small part to the media hype about "looters." After Katrina, the number of private security companies registered (and unregistered) multiplied overnight. Banks, wealthy individuals, the US government all hired private security. I even encountered Israeli mercenaries operating an armed check-point outside of an elite gated community in New Orleans.
Now, it is kicking into full gear in Haiti. As we know, the member companies of the Orwellian-named mercenary trade association, the International Peace Operations Association, are offering their services in Haiti.

This 12-ton cargo was part of the contents of an earlier plane carrying a total of 40 tons of supplies that was blocked from landing on Sunday morning. Since January 14, MSF has had five planes diverted from the original destination of Port-au-Prince to the Dominican Republic. These planes carried a total of 85 tons of medical and relief supplies.

Israel is arresting a growing number of prominent opponents to its policies toward the Palestinians, say critics who are accusing the government of trying to crush legitimate dissent. In the most high-profile case yet, Jerusalem police detained the head of a leading Israeli human rights group during a vigil against the eviction of Palestinian families whose homes were taken by Jewish settlers.

Larijani: US powered Israel's war on Gazahttp://www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=116514§ionid=351020101
Iran's parliament speaker says the US and its European allies provided Israel with behind-the-scenes support during last year’s 22-day war on Gaza. Ali Larijani said Tuesday: "Israel .. used prohibited chemical weapons, and destroyed hospitals, mosques, and civilian infrastructure.” Larijani went on: “It is sad that despite all Israel's human rights violations, the US and other Western powers stood by Tel Aviv throughout the whole ordeal."
Larijani attacked the Western alliance for giving Israel all the military support it needed to launch its deadly operation on the impoverished Palestinian coastal strip. The Iranian parliament speaker said the US blocked efforts to pass a binding resolution at the UN Security Council against Israel so as to stop the offensive. Larijani said: "There was no talk of human rights during those 22 days. Even though the political system had changed in the US and a new president had been elected with the motto of change.”
Three new private banks intervened due to administrative problems in Venezuelahttp://www.abn.info.ve/go_news5.php?articulo=216161&lee=17
Caracas, Jan 19. ABN.- Sudeban, Venezuela's banking regulator, intervened three new private banks: Inver Unión Banco Comercial, C.A, Banco Del Sol-Banco de Desarrollo C.A and Mi Casa, Entidad de Ahorro y Préstamo, C.A due to serious administrative problems. 'The three banks have been imposed administrative measures by the supervising authority and their intervention has been the necessary and unpostponable result since the required recovery plans were not feasible,' explains Sudeban in a press release. Sudeban also notes that these three banks face serious administrative and managerial problems that have caused low liquidity, which do not make it possible for them to cover their short-term obligations. In its press release, Sudeban explains that the Venezuelan gGvernment has guaranteed deposits to 1,498 clients, 97.91 percent, of Banco Del Sol-Banco de Desarrollo C.A, to 1,686 clients, 95.31 percent, of Inver Unión Banco Comercial, C.A, and 162,266 clients, 98.45 percent, of Mi Casa, Entidad de Ahorro y Préstamo, C.A. Thanks to these measures, the Bolivarian Government and the country's financial authorities continue safeguarding the health and stability of the domestic financial system, and the rights and savings of all the citizens.

"Agents of State, accompanied by paramilitaries murdered my father": Iván Cepedahttp://www.elespectador.com/noticias/judicial/articulo183073-agentes-del-estado-compania-de-paramilitares-asesinaron-mi-padre-iv
We will condemn the orders of the State as one of the executors of the murder of the Patriotic Union Senator Manuel Cepeda Vargas, said his son, Ivan Cepeda, at the American Court of Human Rights. The candidate for the House of Representatives for the Democratic Pole party will be presented this Thursday in San Jose, Costa Rica, which will stage the first hearing facing the State of Colombia at the Inter-American system for the death of the parliamentarian, in 1994,the diligence which will be held on January 26.
"They were agents of the State in the company of paramilitary groups who killed my father. The crime of Manuel Cepeda Vargas is a murder that is part of a dynamic of crimes against humanity," said Cepeda to ElEspectador.com.Spokesman for the National Movement of Victims of State Crimes, MOVICE,said it is clear that the killing of Manuel Cepeda is part of the genocide was the subject of the UP(uribes rigth wingparty), not yet recognized by the courts, but well evidenced and documented by the violent deaths of about 4 thousand of its leaders, which show the clear purpose of political extermination.
comment-also see..Iván Cepeda Castrohttp://www.humanrightsfirst.org/defenders/hrd_colombia/hrd_cepeda.asp
Iván Cepeda is a courageous human rights defender who has selflessly promoted the rights of victims of Colombia’s civil war and created a national social movement to call for justice. Motivated into activism by the brutal assassination of his father, Colombian Senator Manuel Cepeda Vargas, Iván is currently the Director of the National Movement for Victims of State Crimes, an umbrella organization of more than 200 Colombian human rights organizations. He is also a columnist in the leading Colombian newspaper El Espectador. Iván has twice lived in exile to escape threats to his life. Throughout his career as a human rights defender, he has endured attacks and threats that stigmatize him and are calculated to deter him from carrying out his essential human rights advocacy.Through remarkable perseverance Iván has demonstrated that paramilitary groups, with the complicity of members of the Colombian armed forces, have committed serious human rights violations. Despite facing considerable personal risk, he has helped document approximately 40,000 cases of serious human rights violations committed in Colombia since 1966.

Congratulations to Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth. They have reached the milestone number of 1000 A&Es! Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth have now reached 1000 professional members, further legitimizing calls for a new investigation into the September 11th attacks based upon physical evidence and analysis that is completely inconsistent with the official story. A&E911Truth also has 6173+ undersigned supporters that include academics, political activists and other members of the general public. The organization has grown exponentially, largely due to efforts by fellow architect and AE911truth founder Richard Gage, AIA, to confront professional architects and engineers with the unsettling evidence– demonstrated on video– that the official story is negated by the law of physics. The New Developmental Extractivism in South Americahttp://americas.irc-online.org/am/6658
Progressive governments assume this role, legitimized by the social and political process that has taken them to the top positions of public administration in their countries, by adopting policies for the redistribution of a portion of the taxes and tributes generated by the economy, and because they have made the development of some democratic participatory projects viable within the public process. As the new extractivism becomes an important source of resources for financing social programs (see the case of the announced "Social Fund" in Brazil, which will employ a portion of the oil resources beneath the salt caps [Pré-sal] for social programs), the governments legitimize themselves politically as progressives, at the same time reinforcing the position of their countries as predominantly extraction- and export-oriented economies.

For Rep. Mario Isea the law will defend the Venezuelan, regardless of political affiliation / The speculation is a "weapon for the destabilization" and it is therefore necessary to reform the legal instrument to give the government the means to attack this serious problem, said
In order to prevent further against hoarding goods and services, the plenary of the National Assembly approved in first reading, by emergency regulation, the partial reform of the Special Law of the People Access to Goods and Services, which was referred to the Standing Committee on Economic Development to urgently develop the report for the second discussion.
It fell to Deputy Mario Isea (Zulia), chairman of the Standing Committee for Economic Development of the legal instrument presentation to the plenary of the NA and regulatory emergency request for inclusion in the agenda. He said that speculation is a "weapon for the destabilization" and it is therefore necessary to reform the legal instrument to give the government the means to tackle this serious problem. He recalled that the current law only applies to essential goods, now the Venezuelan State is empowered to proceed to initiate the expropriation even though the goods are not necessities. He insisted that this law will defend the Venezuelan, regardless of political affiliation. "It seeks to strengthen the capacity of the people and therefore seek your approval.
