Women carry out two thirds of the work at world level, and only receive one third of the salaries. This is only one example of the domination of men over women, according to Elisabeth Maria Cardoso, Brazilian activist from the World March of Women. “Sexism is one of the bases of capitalism. People will never be able to break with capitalism if the patriarchal system is not abandoned”, she said. Cardoso is part of the Centre of Alternative Technologies from Zona da Mata and of the Working Group of Women from the National Agroecology Articulation.
She was interviewed by Real World Radio at the 3rd Forum Social Missões held from Thursday to Saturday in Santo Angelo, Rio Grande do Sul stateCardoso made reference to the fundamental role of women in peasant agriculture and she highlighted that an end to gender division in work is crucial. The representative of the World March of Women also talked about the several features of violence against them, of their role in the agroecological movement and the daily work they carry out without it being recognized.
