UN: Israeli measures and actions in the occupied Syrian Golan are null
Islam Times: The United Nations, and through the adoption of a decision titled “The Occupied Syrian Golan” by the General Assembly, also demanded that occupation’s authorities to immediately cancel its decision to annex the Golan and stressed that all the legal and administrative measures and procedures which were taken or will be taken to change the character of the occupied Syrian Golan and its legal status are null and void. The UN stressed that these measures constitute a flagrant violation of international law and of the Geneva Convention on the protection of civilians in time of war and do not have any legal effect. The resolution also demanded the occupation authorities to desist from imposing Israeli citizenship and Israeli identity cards of Syrian citizens in the occupied Golan and to stop the repressive measures being taken against its population. The resolution condemned the Israeli occupation’s violations of the Geneva Convention on the protection of civilians in time of war again and asked Member States of the United Nations not to recognize any measures and procedures contrary to international law that were taken by the occupation authorities in the occupied Golan. It is noteworthy that the resolution on the occupied Syrian Golan was adopted by an overwhelming majority of 163 countries voting in favor of the decision while Israel alone voted against it and the United States and Canada and 9 small island countries declined to vote. The Committee on Special Political Issues and Decolonization “the Fourth Committee” had adopted this resolution on the 10th of last month and forwarded it to the General Assembly for a vote.
