They will help monitor Venezuelan police and ensure that they are complying with norms. This news was stated by the executive secretary of the Police Council and the rector of the National Experimental University of Security (UNES), Soraya El Achkar, in an interview on Venezuela’s National Radio. The committees will have the right to report on the practices of the communal police service and supervise proceedings and norms of conduct.“They do not process complaints, but can receive and systematize them in order to identify patterns and respond to each case,” El Achkar said. She added that the committees will demand transparency among police authorities, and can intervene in the police institutions to review budgets, payrolls, organizational arrangements, and other issues.
