President Hugo Chavez stated Sunday that even though there are threats posed against Venezuela from abroad, an attack as that staged in Syria is not possible here because there is a political process under way in the region to face any kind of aggression."The empire has its eye on Latin America and the Caribbean. It's just that there is a process under way here," said the Venezuelan President in a phone call aired live in television.Concerning the raid on Libya, Chavez reminded that such nation remained alone. "Just imagine a Latin American country in which they would like to use a Libya formula. It would never happen in Latin America. Not even right-wing governments would take that side."Some nations keep supporting democratic governments, Chavez said, referring to other interests opposing the government of Bashar al-Assad. "Fortunately, we have Russia, with a very solid stance in the face of the aggression against Syria."He also referred to the attendance of Bolivian President Evo Morales to the 42th General Assembly of the Organization of American States. The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) will submit on Monday, in the OAS General Assembly, a proposal to eliminate the Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance (Rio Treaty).

At the plenary session, Morales spoke shortly after OAS Secretary General José Miguel Insulza, whose stance was just the opposite of the Assembly's host. While Insulza called for respect for the organization and highlighted the alleged benefits to the OAS countries, the Bolivian president railed against his words and demanded the re-foundation or disappearance of the OAS.According to Morales, this is the best time for the reconstruction of the OAS, and it is not a time of cold war and the heads of state of the Americas are obliged to alter this regional organization.
