BOLIVIAN VP DEFENDS PRESIDENT MORALES OVER ALLEGED EMBEZZLEMENT
Bolivian Vice President Alvaro Garcia Linera has refuted allegations of embezzlement against President Evo Morales by opposition leaders and journalists linked to the right wing. Garcia Linera stressed that Morales and his government are transparent, and noted that he earned much more money when he was a deputy. He urged the people to visit the website of the Comptroller General and verify the declared economic movements made public and declared by Morales. "It is evident, he is a transparent President. You can go online and get very clear information on what his income and expenses are. Indeed, he earned more as deputy than as head of state," said Garcia Linera in a press conference. Linera, who is also President of the Plurinational Legislative Assembly, said this in response to allegations by right-wing media and opposition leaders, who questioned the assets of the first indigenous president in the country's history.
