Venezuelan pro-government sectors are up in arms over the appointment of Juan Jose Rendon as the new PR adviser of Colombian presidential candidate, Juan Manuel Santos.The move is part of Santos' re-launch of his ailing candidacy and he hopes Rendon will be the man to tell him how to deal with Chavez.Rendon was famous for spreading the rumor that Chavez had "tinkered" with voting machines to cap the number of opposition votes during the 2004 referendum.

The fantasy numerical theory he elaborated then was swallowed hook, line and sinker by many opposition groups and personalities, catching even Harvard's illustrious Venezuelan economists.Santos expects Rendon to start his anti-Chavist rumor-mongering smear in the last month of campaigning to link the President or his collaborators with the FARC, narco-trafficking or specific Cuban advisers telling specific Venezuelan Army generals or colonels what to do.

On the positive side, the overall rejection in many parts of Latin America, especially Mexico of sleaze-raker Rendon as a serious PR expert will do Santos no favors.Santos' surprise appointment will ratify the generalized opinion of the candidate himself as a desperate and ambitious war-monger, who could be now be viewed as more of a liability than asset to the USA.The international media can now take any PR slithering from the Santos camp related to Venezuela with a large dose of salt.
