Repression in Honduras escalates – U.S. restores military aid http://quotha.net/node/958

Yesterday afternoon at 4:30 pm two armed men entered the San Pedro Sula offices of STYBIS, a beverage union which is very active against the coup. The armed men ordered workers to put their hands up. One of them, Douglas Gomez, was shot as he attempted to flee and was taken to the hospital for emergency surgery. The armed men forced others into a storage room before taking a backpack from them and leaving.

When others in the union office tried to call the police and union officials, they discovered that the telephone lines were blocked. This is especially troubling, given that the new director of the telephone company is Romeo Vasquez Velasquez, an SOA trained general who oversaw widespread repression in the months after the coup and during the counterinsurgency campaigns of the 1980s.
