United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has sent greetings to Algeria on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of Algeria's National Independence on Tuesday, and praised the political and economic reforms announced by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika."On behalf of President (Barack) Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of Algeria on your country’s National Day this July 5," said Clinton in a message to the Algerian authorities published Wednesday by the US State Department.

Meanwhile in Algiers, a ceremony to pay homage to the memory of martyrs of the Algerian Revolution (1954-1962) was held Tuesday at the headquarters of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) to mark the 49th anniversary of national independence and Youth Day. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Interior and Local Authorities Dahou Ould Kablia, Minister of Mujahideen (war veterans) Mohamed Cherif Abbes and the head of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), Major General Abdelghani Hamel.
