Egyptian Politician Views Mubarak's Trial as "Condemnation of Ties with Israel" http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=9005170966

Many Arab dictators as well as the US and Israel were shivering with fear when they saw ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on trial, specially when Mubarak's direct ties with Israel were condemned in the court, a prominent Egyptian politician said. "The US administration was one of the most important governments which opposed the trial of the dictator. The Zionist regime of Israel and most of the Persian Gulf littoral states, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Oman as well as Jordan, were among the other states opposing the trial," Secretary-General of Egypt's Amal Party Majdi Hussein told FNA.

He said despite the strong opposition of these certain states, the development is a great triumph for the Egyptian nation and revolution. Pointing to Mubarak's close ties with Tel Aviv, Hussein stated, "The Egyptian dictator was a close friend of Tel Aviv and fulfilled Israel's demands and resolved a number of Tel Aviv's strategic problems." "In deed, the trial of Hosni Mubarak is a condemnation of his direct ties with Tel Aviv," he added.

At a historic trial in the Arab world, ousted Egyptian President Mubarak stood in the dock on Wednesday, months after a revolution in the North African country ended decades-long rule of the overthrown dictator. Mubarak, lying on a stretcher inside a metal cage, pleaded not guilty to charges of ordering the killing of protesters during the 18-day revolution in February. He also denied charges of corruption and abuse of power. About 850 protesters were killed during the historic revolution.
