Explosion is detonation of spying device not cluster bomb, Hezbollah http://english.al-akhbar.com/content/cluster-bomb-explodes-south-lebanon Using a reconnaissance jet, Israeli forces detonated a spying device in south Lebanon Friday afternoon, according to a statement released by Hezbollah. The detonation took place after the device was detected on a telephone line by resistance forces, the statement added.Earlier Friday, media reports spoke of an explosion between Deir Kifa and Srifa shortly after 1.30pm, attributing the detonation, which caused no casualties, to a cluster bomb.UN forces (UNIFIL) and Lebanese security sources said that the explosion was indeed a cluster bomb, one of the many still remaining in South Lebanon following the 2006 July War.The detonation comes on the heels of intensive deployments by Israeli forces along the border Friday, just two days after they shelled the environs of southern Lebanese town of Ayta ShaabThe Israeli army claimed the attacks were a response to two rockets that landed on Israeli soil Tuesday.Israel scattered millions of cluster bombs throughout South Lebanon in the final days of the 2006 war, proving a daily threat to locals with devastating consequences.Since July 2006, Israel's unexploded cluster bombs has claimed the lives of 51 Lebanese civilians, including 4 children, with an additional 357 injured, an al-Akhbarreport revealed.Israel's disproportionate use of cluster bombs in Lebanese civilian areas prompted international calls for the munitions to be banned internationally. The Convention on Cluster Munitions received the signatories of 111 countries, but all major manufacturers of the weapon - US, Israel, Russia, China, South Korea, India and Pakistan - have all refused to back the ban.
