Iran, Turkey: Differences Meet Interests
|
It's the international game.
And between the differences in strategic tracks and the meeting of common interests is a thin thread that makes political needs emerge to surface Strong Tehran announced the launch of new era: We're strong enough and ready to face any threats and sanctions. US Battleships must be out of Hormuz and we're ready to block the Strait if a drop of our oil is to be sanctioned.Iran's neighbor and US ally in the region, Turkey, read well the message and as the Islamic Republic ended the "Velayat 90" naval drills in the region, the Turkish foreign minister rushed to cross the borders carrying both international and local messages to neighboring Iran. Turkey to Strong Iran: We're against Sanctions In an attempt to uncover some of the aspects of the regional new map, resembled by its major new poles Iran and Turkey, Dr. Mohamed Noureddine, the Lebanese Expert in Turkish Affairs, stressed that "Turkish foreign minister Ahmet Davutoglu's recent visit to the Islamic Republic has more than one dimension.""The first dimension Davutoglu carried to Iranian officials is related to the bilateral relations between the two countries after the tension that governed resulting from differences on NATO's missile shield and Syria," he clarified. In an interview with moqawama.org, the expert explained that "the second dimension lies under the international level concerning the tension that spread among the Gulf region due to US- European threats to sanction Iranian oil exports on one side and the Iranian response to this step by threatening to block Hormuz strait on the other."Predicting that "Turkey isn't to be a part in any sanctions on Iran despite the fact that Ankara is part of the western system, Noureddine viewed that "the country has its own interests and agenda that aren't directly linked to West.""Turkey has strong relations with Iran whether through oil and gas import or the Turkish investments in the Islamic Republic," he added, noting that "both countries (Turkey and Iran) have a common trade of 10 million dollars and that is expected to rise in the coming five years to reach 30 million dollars a year."The Lebanese expert in Turkish affairs stated that "the economically developing Turkey is passing through a stage of awareness from any economic defect that might drag it into the international financial crisis. Any problem in the relations with Iran will be negatively reflected on the Turkish economics which Ankara greatly fears." Nuclear Iran Accepts Turkish Mediator Commenting on Turkish announced role as a mediator between nuclear Iran and the West, Nourddine asserted to our website "it is clear that Tehran despite all new controversial files with the Turkish neighbor, still views that Turkey is still an acceptable mediator." "Iran is ready to meet the (5+1) group in condition that Turkey is to host this meeting. Turkey delivered the West's message and Iran agreed setting its conditions." Syria: Strategic Difference As the foreign Turkish policy, is on one side characterized with confrontation and on the other with following the track of dancing on the abyss' edge in many issues, Nourddine pointed out to facts at the Syrian crisis: "On Syria, Turkey went far beyond the abyss by cutting all lines that would have, if preserved, allowed Turkey to play the mediator's role in the Syrian crisis," he confirmed, pointing out that "Davutoglu's fear of a regional cold war is real." As the expert highlighted that "Turkey is part of agitating of what it fears from cold war," he added that "part of the regional conflict is hot as is the case in the Syrian crisis.""It is part of the war on Syria by supporting the opposition groups and arming the so-called "Free Syrian Army"," Nourddine mentioned to moqawama.org. As the Turkish -Western pressure escalates on Damascus, the regional political map i.e. the geographic and the sectarian map reflects that the two major poles present in the region are resembled in both: Turkey and Iran. Thus, according to the expert, "the Arab presence is absent and the Arab League's presence and pressure are temporary and based on foreign orders and dictates.""At the regional level, if there were attempts to launch an internal Syrian settlement between the Syrian regime and opposition, both Turkey and Iran have to exert a common effort in this direction," Nourddine stressed."Iran supports the Syrian regime and its reforms while Turkey supports the opposition through emerging the rebels and defectors, as well as arming and training them. This comes in parallel to the establishment of the so-called National council and hosting them in Istanbul," he further mentioned. Turkey Not to Fool Iran on NATO's Radars Another major title Davutoglu tackled during his recent visit to Tehran was, according to the analyst, the developments in the Gulf region. "At the moment Iran threatened with blocking the Hormuz Strait if West and US sanction it with banning oil export, Oil's prices greatly hiked," Nourddine added. Highlighting that "well known of the fact that it's not an oil country, Turkey doesn't want to be losing its major economical achievements amid the international economic crisis," Nourddine stressed that "Turkey is to be among the most losing countries if Hormuz was closed or any military confrontation or explosion took place.""The oil prices will greatly affect Ankara's economy. The Turkish diplomat aimed at ensuring his country's interests at the 1st level."Moving to the NATO's missile shield, the controversial topic between Ankara and Tehran, Nourddine explained that "Turkey is decisive in its decision of being part of the Western NATO's camp.""Spreading the NATO's missile shields in Turkey is just another proof of the western view that "Turkey's neighbors: Iran, Russia, and Syria are threatening."The twenty four hours' of the Turkisn envoy's visit to the Persian territories didn't fool the Islamic Republic's top officials."The shield is to deliver information regarding any missiles launched from Iran and Russia so that the response would be from "Israel", Romania, and Bulgharia," the expert in Turkish affairs estimated.Affirming that "US Intelligence and military admitted that "these radars are to allow "Israel" to benefit from a three minutes span of time to discover the missiles launched from Iran (for example) into "Israel", Nourddine stressed that "despite all Davutoglu's failing attempts to assure the Iranians, the title remains a core of instability between both sides." Iraq after Occupation: Iran's Superior Iraq after US occupation was also on Turkish diplomat agenda to Iran. Nourddine noted to the difference between Tehran and Ankara on Iraq. "The US ally resembled by Turkey views that "US withdrawal allowed Iran to control the Iraqi political field lonely," he viewed."Turkey considered Iraqi's Vice PM Tareq al-Hashimi's (who is 100% loyal to Turkey) arrest warrant forms an index of Iranian superiority in Iraq on all other sides including Saudi Arabia and Turkey," the strategic analyst confirmed.Considering that "Turkey isn't comfortable with the new political map in Iraq and won't retreat from altering its aspects," Nourddine explained that especially that Davutoglu declared to Turkish papers on the sides of his visit to Iran that "Arab countries are of three categories: one that seeks democracy as Tunisia and Egypt, Libya and Morocco "countries moving into Islamic rule.Second that has its special situation as is the case with wealthy gulf countries. Third are those resisting and opposing changes that are "Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon." |
